  • William Cribb

    William Elgin Cribb Jr., 41, of Ash, died Feb. 2 from an automobile accident.

    He worked with Barnhill Paving in Shallotte in road construction.

    Funeral services were in the Inman Funeral Home Chapel in Tabor City. Burial followed in the Stanley Cemetery in Ash.

    Survivors include his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Elgin Cribb Sr., and two brothers, Tommy Martin Cribb and Paul Frederick Cribb, all of Ash.

  • James Dezern

    James Phillip Dezern Sr., 67, of Oak Island, died Jan. 29 at the Lower Cape Fear Hospice and LifeCareCenter.

    He was born in Asheboro on Sept. 9, 1940, a son of the late James Morgan Dezern and Lucille Berry Dezern. He was a former resident of Asheboro before moving to Oak Island. He was an avid fisherman and hunter.

    He is survived by his wife, Nellie Williams Dezern of the home; a son, Jimmy Dezern of Oak Island; a granddaughter; two brothers, Terry Dezern of Asheboro and Eddie Dezern of Greensboro; and a sister, Brenda Cox of McLeansville.

  • Travis Serviss

    Travis Wayne Serviss, 24, of Shallotte, died Feb. 1 at his home.

    He was born May 22, 1983, in Wilmington, a son of Debra Rose and George A. Serviss. He was employed by Duffers Restaurant.

    In addition to his parents, he is survived by two brothers Lucas Serviss of San Diego, Calif., and Christopher Sharpe of New York; and his maternal grandmother, Rose Mary Rose of Gouverneur, NY.

    Memorial services were at New Beginnings Baptist Church, Shallotte.

  • Donna Russell

    Donna Cox Russell, 50, of Supply, died Jan. 30 in Brunswick Community Hospital.

    She was born Jan. 3, 1958, in Davie County, the daughter of the late Boyce and Virginia Cottingham Cox.

    She is survived by her husband, Joey Roberts of the home; two daughters, Misty R. Triplett of China Grove and Heather Roberts of Supply; two brothers, Jimmy Brown of China Grove and Bo Cox of Supply; a sister, Theresa Talbert of China Grove; and a granddaughter.

    A memorial service was at Lighthouse Pentecostal Church in Kannapolis. Inurnment followed in Greenlawn Cemetery, China Grove.

  • Steve Truszkowski

    Steve J. Truszkowski 84, of Calabash, died Jan. 31.

    He was born Sept. 2, 1923 in Sharpsburg, Pa., he was a son of the late Jacob and Anna Truszkowski.

    He was an avid sports fan.

    He is survived by one son, Mark Truszkowski and his wife Jan of Calabash; two grandsons and one step-granddaughter.

    His wife, Wanda, whom he cared for through many years of illness, predeceases him.

    Services will be private.

    Charm Allen

    Charm Yearby Allen, 58, of Pinehurst and Oak Island, died Jan. 9 at Duke University Medical Center in Durham from complications of leukemia.

    She was born Aug. 16, 1949, in Pinehurst to the late Leonard H. and Marjorie Currie Yearby. She graduated from Pinehurst High School in 1967 and received her bachelor of science degree in Christian education from Pfeiffer College.

    Donald Adams

    Donald L. Adams of Southport died Jan. 1 at Dosher Memorial Hospital after a short illness.

    Born Nov. 27, 1921, in Lawrence County, Ky., he was a son of Early T. Adams, and Drew B. Adams. His early childhood was in Eastern Kentucky at his family farm along Irish Creek, and later in Southern Ohio.

    He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps as a B-24 pilot during World War II. He was married to Rosalee Mattox in 1944, and they settled in Dayton, Ohio, where he worked as an engineer for Chrysler Airtemp.
