ATMC announced an aggressive network improvement project that will enable more than 3,000 households in some of Brunswick County’s most rural areas to have access to much faster broadband Internet speeds by the end of 2019. The project is part of the cooperative’s five-year plan to expand and enhance its broadband network throughout Brunswick County.

North Carolina will receive $18.6 million as a result of a lawsuit against Dish Network related to its violations of Do-Not-Call laws.

North Carolina entered into the lawsuit against Dish Network with three other states and the federal government. This is the largest do-not-call related penalty ever obtained.

Sunset Beach Town Council has rescheduled budget work sessions to the following dates. Each session starts at 9 a.m. in Town Hall Council Chambers at 700 Sunset Blvd. N.

First budget work session, Wednesday, April 26; second session Saturday, April 29; third session (if needed), Thursday, May 4.

Sunset Beach Town Council will have its regular meeting Monday, May 1, starting with a closed session at 6 p.m. and pre-agenda meeting at 6:45 p.m., followed by the meeting at 7 p.m.

A Brunswick County drugstore is among five in the state from which the state collected fines in the first quarter of the year because of excessive price-scanner errors.

Walgreens No. 2530 at 5098 Southport-Supply Road in Southport paid $660 in civil penalties, according to a news release from the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services’ Standards Division.

An initial inspection in November found an error rate of 10 percent, based on five overcharges in a 50-item lot.
