  • Realtor’s murder trial to begin later this month

    On Monday, Aug. 20, the first-degree murder trial of Craig Bryant, accused of killing Shallotte Realtor Adam Bradshaw more than four years ago, is scheduled to begin in Brunswick County Superior Court.

    According to the autopsy report, Bradshaw, 34, who lived with his wife Shannon and their young son in the Brierwood community, died from a gunshot wound to the head from a high-velocity firearm on April 26, 2008, the day before his wife reported him missing.

  • Misdemeanor convictions for teen who killed friends in crash

    BOLIVIA—A Brunswick County jury has found Joseph Moreno guilty of misdemeanor death by motor vehicle.

    Moreno, 20, was facing two counts of involuntary manslaughter—both felonies—for the May 2009 deaths of two friends after the car he was driving lost control.

    Last Friday, July 27, jurors found Moreno guilty of two misdemeanors in the deaths of 18-year-old Jacob Moseley and 17-year-old Caleb Hawkins.

  • Trial begins in involuntary manslaughter case for former West Brunswick student

    An involuntary manslaughter trial has begun for a teen accused to killing two friends in a fatal car wreck in 2009.

    The trial of Joseph Moreno, 20, began Monday, July 23.

    Assistant District Attorney Gina Essey is prosecuting the case, while Mike Ramos is representing Moreno.

    On Tuesday, district attorney Jon David said testimony was under way, and he expected the state to rest Wednesday.
