  • Ash man charged with June 30 murder in Little River, S.C.

    An Ash man has confessed to the June 30 shooting death of a Columbus County man in Little River, S.C.

    Thomas Edward Shipplett, 57, of 2046 Ash Little River Road, is charged with murder and is in the J. Reuben Long Detention Center in Conway, S.C. As of Monday, bond for Shipplett had not yet been set, said Sgt. Robert Kegler of the Horry County, S.C., Police Department.

    The victim was identified as Dale McDuffie Hammond, 56, of Cerro Gordo.

  • Ocean Isle Beach Crime Report

    The Ocean Isle Beach Police Department recovered a $12,000 ring from a Shallotte residence on June 29 with the help of the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office. According to Ocean Isle Beach Police, charges are pending.

  • Brunswick County Sheriff's Office ACE roundup

    The Aggressive Criminal Enforcement (ACE) Team is a support unit, whose primary functions are traffic enforcement and assisting in the apprehension of drug traffickers in the county.

    The ACE team conducts driving while impaired and driver’s license checkpoints, as well as street-level investigations on controlled substances. The ACE team works with the sheriff’s office K-9 Enforcement Team and Drug Enforcement Unit to apprehend narcotics suspects as well as saturating hot spots where criminal activity is reported.

  • Brunswick County Sheriff's Office crime report

    Brunswick County Sheriff’s deputies investigated the following incidents last week, which are taken directly from sheriff’s office incident reports.

    •Property damage on Palmer Drive in Calabash; suspect damaged victim’s TV, telephone, two table lamps and two pairs of sunglasses.

    •Breaking and entering on Southport-Supply Road in Southport; suspect pried open victim’s back door.

  • Holden Beach police report

    Holden Beach Police officers investigated the following incidents and charged with following individuals from June 15-26. All information is taken directly from police incident reports.

    •Vandalism on Ocean Boulevard East; suspect damaged an electrical line.

    •Larceny on Ocean Boulevard East; suspect stole victim’s bike.

    •Larceny on Crab Street; suspect stole victim’s golf cart charger.

    •Larceny on Ranger Street; suspect stole victim’s beach cart.

  • Brunswick County Sheriff's Office K-9 Roundup

    The K-9 enforcement team answers calls, conducts driver’s license checkpoints and assists with other agencies when K-9s are needed.

    From June 22-28, deputies with the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Enforcement Team answered 15 calls, made two drug arrests and wrote five uniform citations.

    K-9 deputies set up driver’s license checkpoints at Shell Point Road, Little Macedonia Road, South Navassa, Sunset Harbor, Beach Drive and Chapel Loop Road.

    The following suspects were charged:

  • SHALLOTTE CRIME REPORT

    Shallotte police charged the following people and investigated the following incidents during the last two weeks.

    •Police charged Crystal Bell Bentley, 28, of 5702 J.B. Lane, Ash, with writing a worthless check, obtaining property by false pretense and failure to appear. She was suspected of writing a fraudulent check to Jones Ford for $12,000 to purchase a car. She was taken to the Brunswick County Detention Center on a secured bond.

  • Arrest made in Sunset Beach break-ins, thefts

    SUNSET BEACH—Police have arrested a North Carolina man for two recent break-ins and thefts on the Sunset Beach island.

    Raymond Lee Jones, 34, of 1459 Halltown Road, Autryville, was arrested in Lumberton on Friday and charged with breaking and entering June 5 and June 6 in Sunset Beach. The break-ins occurred on East Main Street and 28th Street.

    On June 6, a 32-inch Vizio flat screen TV was reported stolen following a house break-in on East Main Street.

  • District Court Docket

    The following cases were adjudicated over four days of District Criminal Court on June 17, 18, 19 and 22 in Bolivia.

    Wednesday, June 17

    Judge Jerry A. Jolly presided over the following cases with prosecutor Cathi Radford and courtroom clerk and Lisa Quick:

    Jesus Alvarado Acuna, operate vehicle no insurance, Brunswick County Jail 30 days, suspended sentence 18 months, unsupervised probation 18 months, costs, not violate any criminal laws; expired/no inspection, expired operator’s license, drive/allow motor vehicle no registration, all voluntarily dismissed.

  • Grand jury indictments

    The Brunswick County Grand Jury under the direction of Judge Gary Traywick with prosecutor Rex Gore and courtroom clerk Michelle Warth returned the following indictments during a Superior Court session on June 15:

    Richard Austin Alexander, 23, of 1660 Beach Drive, Calabash; felony sell/deliver marijuana, felony possession with intent to manufacture/sell/deliver marijuana.
