  • Brunswick County Sheriff's Office ACE roundup

    The Aggressive Criminal Enforcement (ACE) Team is a support unit, whose primary functions are traffic enforcement and assisting in the apprehension of drug traffickers in the county. The ACE team conducts driving while impaired and driver’s license checkpoints, as well as street-level investigations on controlled substances.

    The ACE team works with the sheriff’s office K-9 Enforcement Team and Drug Enforcement Unit to apprehend narcotics suspects as well as saturating hot spots where criminal activity is reported.

  • Fourteen arrested during 'Hands Across the Border' DWI checkpoint

    Fourteen suspects were arrested last Friday night, charged with driving while impaired during this year’s Hands Across the Border driving while impaired checkpoint.  The multi-agency checkpoint was conducted in conjunction with the Governor’s Highway Safety Booze It and Lose It campaign.

  • Brunswick County Sheriff's Office crime report

    Brunswick County Sheriff’s deputies investigated the following incidents last week, which are taken directly from sheriff’s office incident reports:

    •Larceny on Oak Crest Drive in Southport; suspect walked into victim’s yard and stole a 4-wheeler.

    •Breaking and entering to a motor vehicle and larceny on Sabbath Home Drive in Supply; suspect entered victim’s vehicle and stole a firearm and clothing.

  • Two arrested for stealing, cashing lottery tickets

    Two men have been arrested and charged with stealing lottery tickets, rifles and Tasers from an area business.

    According to a sheriff’s office incident reports, more than $6,000 in lottery tickets, guns and Tasers were reported stolen from a Ridge Way, Shallotte business.

    Brian Anthony Armakotvitch, 25, of 259 Suburban St., Shallotte, was arrested Sept. 4, and charged with breaking and entering, larceny and 10 counts of obtaining property by false pretenses for cashing the stolen lottery tickets.

    A second suspect was also charged.

  • Ocean Isle Beach Crime Report

    The Ocean Isle Beach Police Department investigated the following incidents and made the following arrests last week. All information is taken directly from police incident reports.

    •Parasail boating accident on the east end of the island.

    •Breaking and entering and larceny at Dolorosa Boulevard; suspect entered home and removed canister vacuum and its power hose and wand.

    •Larceny at the Causeway Inn; suspect stole a digital camera and memory card.

  • Shallotte resident charged in Sunset Beach

    SUNSET BEACH—A Shallotte man was arrested Saturday and charged with the theft of a DVD player from a car.

    Sunset Beach Police Detective Woody Dunn charged David Colin Hernandez, 39, of 3005 High Meadows Dr., Shallotte, with breaking and entering to an automobile and felony larceny.

    Earlier in the day, at 12:30 p.m., a Sony in-dash flip-out DVD player was reported stolen from a car. The player was valued at $1,250 and damages were estimated at $1,500.

  • District Court Docket

    The following cases were adjudicated over four days of District Criminal Court on Aug. 19, 20, 21 and 24 in Bolivia.

    Wednesday, Aug. 19

    Napoleon B. Barefoot Jr. presided over the following cases with prosecutor Gina Essey and courtroom clerk and Lisa Quick:

    William Lord Abbott, improper equipment, costs.

    Robin M. Alexander, exceeding safe speed, voluntarily dismissed.

    Brian James Allen, expired registration card/tag, voluntarily dismissed.

    April Poole Anderson, improper equipment, costs.

  • SHALLOTTE CRIME REPORT

    Shallotte police charged the following people and investigated the following incidents during the past week.

    •Police charged Abby A. Woodell, 22, of 53 Holmes St., Supply, with larceny and obtaining property by false pretense. She was taken to the Brunswick County Detention Center on a $10,500 unsecured bond.

    •Police charged William Tyler Miller, 22, of 4387 Owendon Drive, Shallotte, with drunk and disruptive and trespassing at Planet Fun. He was taken to the Brunswick County Detention Center on a $500 secured bond.

  • Holden Beach police reports

    Holden Beach police investigated the following incidents last week, which are taken from police incident reports:

    •Burglary, larceny and property damage were reported Aug. 19 on Ocean Boulevard West.

    •Breaking and entering and larceny from a motor vehicle were reported Aug. 18 on Ocean Boulevard East.

    •Breaking and entering and larceny from a motor vehicle were reported Aug. 18 on Ocean Boulevard West.

    •Larceny was reported Aug. 20 at the Ocean Boulevard East beach access.

  • Brunswick County Sheriff's Office drug report

    Agents with the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office Drug Enforcement Unit made the following arrests last week, which are taken directly from arrest warrants and citations:

    •Craig Allen McKamey, 19, of 117 NE 78th St., Oak Island; charged with conspiracy to sell/deliver a schedule VI controlled substance.
