  • Ring, van recovered in Sunset Beach following thefts

    SUNSET BEACH—Police are investigating the theft of a 1½-carat diamond ring valued at $14,000 and gold wedding band reported stolen Sept. 8 from a residence on Discovery Lake Drive.

    The diamond ring has since been recovered and charges are pending, Sunset Beach Deputy Chief Steve Smith said.

    On Sept. 9, Sunset Beach police recovered a vehicle reported stolen from Westbrook Avenue.

    The vehicle, a white 1993 GMC van, was found next to a pond behind Ingram Planetarium. The vehicle had been purchased by a man at the Habitat store, Smith said.

  • Shallotte man charged with Sunset Beach break-ins

    SUNSET BEACH—A Shallotte man was arrested Sept. 16 and charged with recent break-ins and thefts on the Sunset Beach island.

    Matt Earl Shreve, 34, was charged with felony breaking and entering, three counts felony auto breaking and entering and larceny. A warrant has been issued for a female who has not yet been arrested.

    Shreve is charged in connection with car break-ins reported Sept. 17 and 18 on First Street, 28th Street and Main Street as well as a house break-in on 33rd Street.

    Change and hanging plant baskets were reported stolen in the car break-ins.

  • Brunswick County Sheriff's Office ACE roundup

    The Aggressive Criminal Enforcement (ACE) Team is a support unit, whose primary functions are traffic enforcement and assisting in the apprehension of drug traffickers in the county. The ACE team conducts driving while impaired and driver’s license checkpoints, as well as street-level investigations on controlled substances.

    The ACE team works with the sheriff’s office K-9 Enforcement Team and Drug Enforcement Unit to apprehend narcotics suspects as well as saturating hot spots where criminal activity is reported.

  • Brunswick County Sheriff's Office drug report

    Agents with the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office Drug Enforcement Unit made the following arrests last week. The suspects and their charges, which are taken directly from arrest reports and citations, are:

    •Floyd Henry McDonald Jr., 23, of 811 Martin St., Wilmington; charged with obtaining property by false pretences and misdemeanor larceny. McDonald took money from a drug agent for a controlled buy and did not return with the marijuana.

  • Brunswick County Sheriff's Office K-9 roundup

    The K-9 enforcement team answers calls, conducts driver’s license checkpoints and assists with other agencies when K-9s are needed.

    K-9 deputies answered 8 calls, wrote three uniform citations and made seven drug arrests.

    The following suspects were charged. All information is taken directly from arrest reports and citations.

    •William Dean Hewett, 42, of 6514 Myrtle Grove Road Lot 39, Wilmington; charged with possession of ½ ounce or less of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

  • Longwood man arrested for burglary, assault on a female

    LONGWOOD—In the early morning hours of Monday, Sept. 14, a Longwood man allegedly kicked in the front door of a Shallotte home and assaulted the woman living there.

    According to Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office Capt. Gene Caison, Mike Lavern Daniels kicked in the victim’s front door and punched her about 10 times.

    Daniels, 27, of 7253 Bellamy Road, Longwood, was charged with first-degree burglary and assault on a female. He was taken to the Brunswick County Detention Center and placed on a $50,000 secured bond.

  • SHALLOTTE CRIME REPORT

    Shallotte Police charged the following people and investigated the following incidents during the past week.

    •Police charged Pamela Lee Monk, 37, of 4353 Spa Drive, Little River, S.C., with larceny of jewelry. She was taken to the Brunswick County Detention Center.

    •Police charged Stacy O’Brine Sellers Jr., 42, of 721 Mill Creek Road, Bolivia, with shoplifting. He was taken to the Brunswick County Detention Center on a $2,000 secured bond.

  • Ocean Isle Beach Crime Report

    The Ocean Isle Beach Police Department investigated the following incidents last week. All information is taken directly from police incident reports.

    •Larceny on First Street; suspect removed a TV from bedroom.

    •Breaking and entering and property damage on Old Sound Boulevard; suspect damaged carpet.

    •Breaking and entering, larceny and property damage on Wilmington Street; suspect entered storage, damaged the door and took a toolbox, socket set and other tools.

  • SHALLOTTE CRIME REPORT

    Shallotte Police charged the following people and investigated the following incidents during the past week.

    •Police charged Daniel W. Bay, 43, of 6650 Ocean Highway, Ocean Isle Beach, with driving while impaired, open container, driving while license revoked and no insurance.

    •Police charged Louis J. Rowan III, 48, of Egg Harbor Township, N.J., with driving while impaired and driving while license revoked. He was taken to the Brunswick County Detention Center on a $500 secured bond.
