  • Brunswick County Sheriff's Office crime report

    Brunswick County Sheriff’s deputies investigated the following incidents last week, which are taken directly from sheriff’s office incident reports:

    •Larceny on Etheridge Road in Longwood; suspect stole money, jewelry and medication from victim’s residence.

    •Larceny on U.S. 17 in Supply; suspect stole keys from business.

    •Larceny and obtaining property by false pretenses on Holden Beach Road; suspect stole weed eater from victim’s residence and pawned it.

  • Brunswick County Sheriff's Office K-9 Roundup

    The K-9 enforcement team answers calls, conducts driver’s license checkpoints and assists with other agencies when K-9s are needed.

    From March 23-29, deputies with the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Enforcement Team answered 33 calls, issued 12 uniformed citations and made seven drug arrests.

    K-9 deputies set up driver’s license checkpoints at the following locations: Lincoln Road, Village and Pigott roads, Mount Misery Road and Natures Trail, Beach Drive and Country Club Drive, N.C. 130 and Mirror Lite, Empire Road and Pea Landing Road.

    Car break-ins in Sunset Beach

    SUNSET BEACH—Money was reported stolen in two separate vehicular break-ins last week.

    The first break-in was reported March 25 on Live Oak Drive. A second break-in of a vehicle on Bayberry Street was reported March 26, according to Sunset Beach police.

    Sunset Beach Deputy Police Chief Steve Smith said the vehicles had been left unlocked.

     

  • Grand jury indictments

    The Brunswick County Grand Jury under the direction of Judge Ola Lewis with prosecutor Rex Gore and courtroom clerk Kay Fowler returned the following indictments during a Superior Court session on March 16:

    Zachary Othell Allen, 26, of 69 Daniels Road, Riegelwood; misdemeanor assault on a female, misdemeanor assault with a deadly weapon, felony assault by strangulation.

    Larry Lee Brown, 21, of 3545 Grist Creek Wynd, Leland; felony possession with intent to manufacture/sell/deliver marijuana, misdemeanor possession drug paraphernalia.

  • District Court Docket

    The following cases were adjudicated over four days of District Criminal Court on March 18, 20, 23 and 24 in Bolivia.

    Wednesday, March 18

    Judge Jerry A. Jolly presided over the following cases with prosecutor Cathi Radford and courtroom clerk and Michelle Warth:

    Isaac Ballard Jr., speeding 69 in a 60 zone, costs.

    John Mester Barbazon, take more than recreational limit, Brunswick County Jail 10 days, suspended sentence 24 months, unsupervised probation 24 months, $35 and costs, not violate any criminal laws, 30 days to pay.

  • Supply man charged with failing to comply with sex offender requirements

    A registered sex offender was arrested last week for failing to comply with his sex offender requirements by not notifying authorities of an address change.

    Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office Detectives Capt. Gene Caison said Steven Earl Taylor, 34, reported to law enforcement he was living at 2483 Jolly Roger Drive in Supply as part of his requirements as a registered sex offender.

    But after weeks of routine sex offender checks by sheriff’s office patrol deputies, Taylor could not be found at the Jolly Roger home since Feb. 7.

  • SHALLOTTE CRIME REPORT

    Shallotte police are investigating similar thefts at two businesses Monday.

    Officers reported two African-American females entered the UPS store March 23 and asked to use the restroom. One suspect went to the restroom while the other talked to the clerk.

    After they had left in a black SUV, the clerk went to the back of the store and found her purse stolen.

  • One more missing monument turtle found in Sunset Beach

    SUNSET BEACH—Police on Sunday located a metal turtle believed to be part of a monument dismantled by vandals last week near the island gazebo.

    Sunset Beach Deputy Police Chief Steve Smith said the turtle was found under stairs at a house on 35th Street. A neighbor reported the find to police, who are still investigating.

    The Sunset Beach Turtle Patrol is offering a $500 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those involved in the incident that occurred sometime overnight March 15 or 16.

  • Brunswick County Sheriff's Office K-9 Roundup

    The K-9 enforcement team answers calls, conducts driver’s license checkpoints and assists with other agencies when K-9s are needed.

    From March 16-22, deputies with the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Enforcement Team answered 21 calls and issued nine uniformed citations, including failure to appear, no operator’s license, littering, open container and driving while license revoked.

    •Breaking and entering and property damage on Newgate Court in Bolivia; suspect broke victim’s door frame.
