    Thefts, break-in reported in Sunset Beach

    SUNSET BEACH—Police investigated a breaking and entering and larceny reported July 10 at 607 W. Main St. in Sunset Beach.

    Taken were three bicycles, two of which have been recovered. A blue bicycle is still missing.

    On July 8, a young man reported he left three surfboards and a skim board overnight on the beach strand and they were gone the next morning. Missing are a 7-foot yellow and green board, a 6-foot red and white long board, one taxi-yellow board with a red emblem and a yellow and red 3-fin skim board.

  • Brunswick County Sheriff's Office K-9 Roundup

    The K-9 enforcement team answers calls, conducts driver’s license checkpoints and assists with other agencies when K-9s are needed.

    From July 6-12, deputies with the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Enforcement Team answered 13 calls and made three drug arrests.

    K-9 deputies patrolled the following communities: Brierwood, Wildwood, Shallotte Point, Brunswick Plantation and Village of Calabash.

  • Holden Beach police report

    Holden Beach Police officers investigated the following incidents and charged the following suspects last week. All information is taken directly from police incident and arrest reports:

    •Larceny on Ocean Boulevard West; suspect stole a video camera, mini video tapes, a camera bag and a van. Police later arrested Michael McKinney, 38, of 2245 Boones Neck Road SW, Supply, and charged him with possession of stolen property.

    •Vandalism on Ocean Boulevard East; suspect damaged three vehicles.

  • Reward offered for St. James home shooting suspect arrest

    A reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspect or suspects who shot into two homes on Saturday, July 4.

    Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office Detectives Capt. Gene Caison said two homes in St. James were shot into on the night of July 4. One home was waterfront; the other was one block back from the water. Caison said the shots, from a large-caliber handgun, likely came from a boat on the Intracoastal Waterway.

    Anyone with information is asked to contact the sheriff’s office at 253-2777.

    The Aggressive Criminal Enforcement (ACE) Team is a support unit, whose primary functions are traffic enforcement and assisting in the apprehension of drug traffickers in the county. The ACE team conducts driving while impaired and driver’s license checkpoints, as well as street-level investigations on controlled substances.

    The ACE team works with the sheriff’s office K-9 Enforcement Team and Drug Enforcement Unit to apprehend narcotics suspects as well as saturating hot spots where criminal activity is reported.

  • SHALLOTTE CRIME REPORT

    Shallotte Police charged the following people and investigated the following incidents during the past week.

    •Police charged Walter Wright, 31, of 1628 Chadwick Landing, Shallotte, with larceny by employee—embezzlement. He was taken to the Brunswick County Detention Center on a $10,000 unsecured bond.

    •Police charged Jimmy Franklin McCumbee, 41, of 7189 Westbrook Ave., Ocean Isle Beach, with possession of cocaine. He was taken to the Brunswick County Detention Center on a $1,000 bond.

  • Ocean Isle Beach Crime Report

    The Ocean Isle Beach Police Department investigated the following incidents and made the following arrest. Information is taken directly from police incident/investigation reports.

    •Larceny of golf cart on East Second Street. Resident left golf cart charging under the residence overnight and was gone the following day.

    •Larceny at Flamingo Row. Police arrested Christine Virginia Ford of Reading, Pa., for larceny of a green dress.

    K-9 deputies patrolled the following communities: Crow Creek, RiverSea, Carolina Place, Goose Marsh and Palmetto Creek.

    The following suspects were charged. All information is taken directly from arrest reports and citations.

  • Two suspects arrested for breaking into coin-operated machines

    Two suspects have arrested and charged with a slew of break-ins to coin-operated machines.

    James Frederick Burris, 36, of 4405 Rounding Run Road, Shallotte, was charged with three counts of breaking into a coin/currency machine and three counts of damage to a coin/currency machine. Burris was also charged with a drug court violation.

    Burris was arrested July 19 and taken to the Brunswick County Detention Center, where he was placed on a $115,000 bond.
