The K-9 enforcement team answers calls, conducts driver’s license checkpoints and assists with other agencies when K-9s are needed.

From Jan. 22-25, deputies with the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Enforcement Team answered 18 calls, issued eight uniformed citations and made six drug arrests.

K-9 officers set up driver’s license checkpoints in the following areas: Ocean Isle Beach Road, Mount Misery Road and Main Street in Navassa.

A Leland teenager was arrested over the weekend and charged with possession of a stolen motor vehicle after allegedly driving a stolen ATV on U.S. 17 in Leland.

Deandre Vichon Graham VI, 17, of 300 Sunnybrook Way, Leland, was charged with possession of a stolen motor vehicle and fleeing to elude arrest Jan. 24.

According to Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office Detective Mike Murray, Graham, allegedly driving a stolen four-wheeler, pulled out onto U.S. 17 from Green Hill Road in front of a sheriff’s deputy in an unmarked patrol car.

The Ocean Isle Beach Police Department investigated the following incidents last week. All information is taken directly from police incident/investigation reports.

• Breaking and entering on West Second Street. A suspect gained entry to a home and stole two alcoholic beverage bottles and a drinking glass. The homeowner declined to press charges.

• Larceny of mailbox on West First Street. An unknown suspect stole a plastic green mailbox valued at $100.

The Aggressive Criminal Enforcement (ACE) Team is a support unit, whose primary functions are traffic enforcement and assisting in the apprehension of drug traffickers in the county. The ACE team conducts driving while impaired, driver’s license and criminal information checkpoints, as well as street-level investigations on controlled substances. The ACE team works with the sheriff’s office K-9 Enforcement Team and Drug Enforcement Unit to apprehend narcotics suspects as well as saturating hot spots where criminal activity is reported.
