  • SHALLOTTE CRIME REPORT

    Shallotte Police charged the following people and investigated the following incidents during the past week.

    •Police charged Christopher Allen Bennett, 19, of 358 Ivy Wood Lane, Surfside Beach, S.C., with driving while impaired and attempting to elude arrest. He was taken to the Brunswick County Detention Center on a $500 secured bond.

    •Obtaining property by false pretenses; suspect took victim’s DVD player, returned it to Walmart and received cash for it.

  • Brunswick County Sheriff's Office drug report

    Agents with the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office Drug Enforcement Unit made the following arrests last week. The suspects and their charges, which are taken directly from arrest reports and citations, are:

    •Jennifer Lee Yarbrough, 33, of 4932 Montserrat Drive, Southport; charged with possession of a schedule II controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

    •Joseph Antonio Smith, 21, of 4519 Smith Trail, Leland; charged with possession with intent to manufacture, sell and deliver marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

  • Brunswick County Sheriff's Office ACE roundup

    The Aggressive Criminal Enforcement (ACE) Team is a support unit, whose primary functions are traffic enforcement and assisting in the apprehension of drug traffickers in the county. The ACE team conducts driving while impaired and driver’s license checkpoints, as well as street-level investigations on controlled substances.

    The ACE team works with the sheriff’s office K-9 Enforcement Team and Drug Enforcement Unit to apprehend narcotics suspects as well as saturating hot spots where criminal activity is reported.

  • Attempted burglary reported in Sunset Beach

    SUNSET BEACH—Police investigated an attempted burglary reported Aug. 16 in Sea Trail.

    An attempted first-degree burglary was reported at a condominium on Avian Drive.

    Someone tried to enter a residence by sliding open a door, then tearing a screen off a window. Entry was never made, Sunset Beach Deputy Chief Steve Smith said.

    Shallotte Police investigated the following incidents during the past week.

    •Drunk and disruptive, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest at the National Guard Armory on Main Street; a fight broke out inside the armory, and two detectives working there on a contracted job told the parties to leave.

    Another fight broke out, and working officers were called for backup. They arrived, and the party was shut down.

    •ABC violation at the National Guard Armory; suspect had a party with alcohol without a permit.

    Brunswick County Sheriff’s deputies investigated the following incidents last week, which are taken directly from sheriff’s office incident reports:

    •Larceny on Ash-Little River Road in Ash; suspect stole victim’s utility vehicle.

    •Larceny on Bluewater Street in Southport; suspect stole victim’s dog.

    •Breaking and entering and property damage on Pigott Avenue in Ocean Isle Beach; suspect broke victim’s car window.

    •Larceny on Kingtown Road in Ash; suspect stole victim’s four-wheeler.

  • Brunswick County Sheriff's Office drug report

    Agents with the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office Drug Enforcement Unit made the following arrests last week. The suspects and their charges, which are taken directly from arrest reports and citations, are:

    •Stephen Parker Brown, 36, of 354 Stockinghead Road, Rose Hill; charged with possession with intent to manufacture, sell and deliver marijuana, manufacture marijuana, maintaining a vehicle to keep a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

  • Brunswick County Sheriff's Office K-9 roundup

    The K-9 enforcement team answers calls, conducts driver’s license checkpoints and assists with other agencies when K-9s are needed.

    From Aug. 10-16, deputies with the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Enforcement Team answered 17 calls and made 14 drug arrests.

    K-9 deputies conducted driver’s license checkpoints at the following locations: Ash-Little River Road, Sunset Harbor, Longwood, Beach Drive and Persimmon Road.
