The Aggressive Criminal Enforcement (ACE) Team is a support unit whose primary functions are traffic enforcement and assisting in the apprehension of drug traffickers in the county.

The ACE team conducts driving while impaired, driver’s license and criminal information checkpoints, as well as street-level investigations on controlled substances. The ACE team works with the sheriff’s office K-9 Enforcement Team and Drug Enforcement Unit to apprehend narcotics suspects as well as saturating hot spots where criminal activity is reported.

Early on the morning of Thursday, Jan. 8, an Oak Island resident called the police department to report breaking and entering incidents at two beachfront homes.

Officers and detectives responded to the scene, filed reports and collected evidence, according to Kyle Thomas, public information officer for the town of Oak Island.

Later the same day, a citizen was at one of the homes making repairs when he noticed a suspicious male in the area and called the police department.

Shallotte Police charged the following people and investigated the following incidents last week:

•Police charged Johnna J. Do, 46, of 3455 Whiteville Road, with driving while impaired, possession of open container and speeding Jan. 4 on Old Shallotte Road. She was taken to the Brunswick County Detention Center.

•Police charged Daniel Everett Cochran, 24, of 316 Orchard Lane, Bolivia, with driving while impaired and no operator’s license on Whiteville Road. He was taken to the Brunswick County Detention Center.

Agents with the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office Drug Enforcement Unit responded to an anonymous tip last week about the whereabouts of a fugitive that led to seizing 21 marijuana plants.

Jesse Nichols, of 216 Sycamore Road, Boiling Spring Lakes, was wanted in Delaware for domestic threats and assault, Capt. Gene Caison said.

When drug agents responded to Nichols’ Boiling Spring Lakes home Tuesday, Jan. 6, they found and seized 21 marijuana plants and 10 grams of marijuana, Caison said.
