  • Calabash woman charged with breach of trust

    A former Ash resident now living in New Jersey is claiming her ex-stepdaughter stole from her and her disabled son.

    According to a North Myrtle Beach, S.C., incident report, Rita Tucker, who now lives in New Jersey, said her ex-stepdaughter Tiffany Ann Horner stole an electric wheelchair and furniture from Tucker and her son.

    Horner, 30, of 875 Calabash Road NW, Calabash, was charged with breach of trust with fraudulent intent valued at $5,000 or more. She was arrested Feb. 18, and released the following day on a $1,000 bond, according to detention center records.

  • Brunswick County Sheriff's Office ACE roundup

    The Aggressive Criminal Enforcement (ACE) Team is a support unit, whose primary functions are traffic enforcement and assisting in the apprehension of drug traffickers in the county.

    The ACE team conducts driving while impaired and driver’s license checkpoints, as well as street-level investigations on controlled substances. The ACE team works with the sheriff’s office K-9 Enforcement Team and Drug Enforcement Unit to apprehend narcotics suspects as well as saturating hot spots where criminal activity is reported.

  • Brunswick County Sheriff's Office crime report

    Brunswick County Sheriff’s deputies investigated the following incidents last week. All information is taken directly from sheriff’s office incident reports.

    •Breaking and entering and larceny on Hideaway Road in Ocean Isle Beach; suspect entered victim’s residence and stole a toilet piece.

    •Larceny on Meadowlark Lane in Shallotte; suspect stole two four-wheelers from victim’s residence.

    •Breaking and entering and larceny on St. James Drive in Southport; suspect entered victim’s yard and stole vehicle.

  • SHALLOTTE CRIME REPORT

    Shallotte police charged the following people and investigated the following incidents last week.

    •Police charged Gabriel Lopez, 23, of 304 Carolina Shores Ave., Calabash, with driving while impaired, no operator’s license and driving left of center. He was taken to the Brunswick County Detention Center and placed on a $500 secured bond.

    •Police charged Frank Wesley Salmon, 22, of 143 Cheers St., Shallotte, with violation of a court order. He was taken to the Brunswick County Detention Center.

  • Two Brunswick’s Most Wanted suspects arrested

    Two suspects recently featured in Brunswick’s Most Wanted have been arrested.

    Just before 5 p.m., Tuesday, March 3, sheriff’s deputies arrested Franklin Floyd, 69, at his home.

    Floyd was featured on Brunswick’s Most Wanted after he failed to show up for his court sentencing in January. Floyd was sentenced to 70-84 months in prison for trafficking opiates on Jan. 26.

  • Teen, juvenile set group home on fire; no injuries reported

    LELAND—A teenager and a juvenile have been charged in connection with an early-morning fire at a group home. No injuries were reported.

    According to Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office Detective Tina Edwards, 16-year-old Tonyal Locklear Jr., of Red Springs, and a male juvenile set fire to the dayroom at the Strategic Behavioral Center in Leland.

    Locklear and the juvenile suspect were residents at the behavioral center. Locklear was charged with first-degree arson, and a juvenile petition was taken out on the male.

    The following cases were adjudicated over five days of District Criminal Court on Feb. 25, 26, 27 and March 2, 3 in Bolivia.

    Judge Napoleon B. Barefoot Jr. presided over the following cases with prosecutor Cathi Radford and courtroom clerk and Lisa Quick:

    Amber Adkins, driving while license revoked, voluntarily dismissed.

    Ronald Patrick Alexander, improper equipment, costs.

    Stephanie Rae Allen, improper equipment, costs.

  • Two suspects arrested; facing 47 drug charges

    Two suspects have been arrested for trafficking cocaine and conspiring to traffic cocaine with one another.

    Justin Dior Newsome, 22, of 197 Zane Way, Supply, was arrested Feb. 10, and charged with 20 drug charges, including eights counts of trafficking cocaine, nine counts of conspire to traffic cocaine, one count of possession with intent to manufacture, sell and deliver cocaine and two counts of sell/deliver cocaine, according to arrest warrants.

  • Woman arrested for theft in Sunset Beach

    Woman arrested for theft in Sunset Beach

    SUNSET BEACH—Local police reported a woman was arrested last week for shoplifting and larceny.

    Michelle Marie Robinson, 48, of Little River, S.C., was charged in connection with the theft from Transit Damage Freight.

    Sunset Beach police also investigated the theft of mail reported by a resident in Sandpiper Bay.

    •Police charged Jerry Wayne Simmons Jr., 38, of 42779 Babson Road, Ash, with driving while impaired at the intersection of Whiteville Road and Ruby Way. He was taken to Brunswick County Detention Center.
