“What’s your favorite subject?” is a common question posed to children and most times the answer comes back resoundingly, “P.E!” We all know math, reading and science are all very important for developing life skills in children, but so is that favorite subject: health and physical education.
Walmart stores in Leland, Shallotte and Southport are working with Communities in Schools of Brunswick County Inc. (CIS) to collect school supplies for students attending Brunswick County Schools. The Build-A-Backpack campaign runs through Aug. 21.

Starting Aug. 6, Brunswick Community College will begin offering a NABCEP approved Solar Installer Training Program. Upon successful completion of the coursework, students will be eligible to sit for the NABCEP entry-level exam.
The third week in July every year brings youth from all over the state to the North Carolina 4-H Horticulture Contest in Raleigh. National Junior Horticulture Association (NJHA) teams who have studied and practiced identifying all types of plants and trees for the past several months compete during North Carolina 4-H Congress at N.C, State University.
Benjamin Reid Milazzo, a rising senior at Appalachian State University, has been named to the dean’s list and the chancellor’s list for the spring 2011 semester. He is the son of Randy and Wendy Milazzo of Shallotte.
