HOLDEN BEACH—Town commissioners on Tuesday approved three budget amendments including two amendments for the town hall and Jordan Boulevard projects.

Board members approved realigning $30,000 from the town hall contingency fund to meet stormwater requirements for the town hall project.

The stormwater requirements are a “must-do” for the completion of the town hall project, town manager David Hewett said.

The $30,000 needed to satisfy the stormwater requirements “should do it,” Hewett said.

SHALLOTTE—The town planning board has recommended approving a master plan for a new, 89-unit development on Village Point Road. It also recommended denial of a rezoning request on the same road that would change the area from residential to multi-family, saying it goes against the town’s land-use plan.

At Tuesday night’s meeting, the planning board heard an overview of the master plan for “Wisteria Place” from the developers and planners of the project.

SUNSET BEACH—Read town administrator Gary Parker’s lips: no new tax increase is being projected for the town’s upcoming 2008-2009 fiscal year budget.

The tax rate for the town’s proposed $5,785,436 fiscal 2008-2009 budget, in fact, is 9.5 cents per $100 of valuation, compared to the current 11.5 cents.

That amount is expected to cover all of the town’s projected operating and maintenance expenses and capital expenditures while returning $200,000 to its fund balance.

Four West Brunswick track athletes performed well enough at the 3A Eastern Track Regionals to qualify for the 3A State Track and Field Meet Friday at North Carolina A&T State University.

“We are really excited for our young people who qualified for the state championship meet this Friday in Greensboro,” West Brunswick head track coach Yogi Hickman said.

“They have worked really hard and have improved their times throughout the season, and now they have a legitimate chance for a medal at the state meet.”
