  • Calabash helps battle S.C. house fire

    Extra fire and rescue units, including members of the Calabash Fire Department, were called to a house fire Monday afternoon, May 18, near Little River, S.C.

    A passing Horry County, S.C., police officer spotted the fire about 5 p.m. at the single-family house at 232 S.C. 57 N., also known as Wampee Road, about four miles south of the state line.

    About 5:10 p.m., a second alarm summoned more units, including Calabash, to the scene, said Brian Van Aernem, spokesman for Horry County Fire Rescue.

  • Sunset Beach investigates break-ins

    The Sunset Police Department is investigating reports of five break-ins in the Seaside Station community in the past week.

    All of the houses are unoccupied vacation homes, according to town clerk Lisa Anglin.

    “The police department is actively investigating these crimes and asks for help from the community,” Anglin wrote Friday afternoon, Aug. 19.

    “We urge everyone to pay close attention to what is going on around them and report any suspicious persons, vehicles, noises, etc.,” Anglin wrote.

  • Calabash Fire Department July 2016

    During the month of July 2016, the Calabash Fire Department responded to 178 calls: 10 structure fires, two woods/brush fires, seven fire alarms, eight motor vehicle accidents, five water/boat rescues, an investigation, 16 public assistance calls, four other calls and 125 EMS first-response calls.
