  • Shallotte man sought in Sunset Beach break-in arrested in S.C.

    A Shallotte man wanted in a Sunset Beach break-in was arrested April 13 in Little River, S.C.

    Sunset Beach police charged 24-year-old Antaun Linear Miller, 24, of Forest Drive with breaking and entering, larceny, safecracking and injury to real property in an April 12 break-in on Cotton Mill Court in Sea Trail.

    Someone broke in through a back window and stole several items around lunchtime when no one was home, according to an incident report. Some evidence was left behind and arrest warrants were issued the next day.

  • Suspicious vehicle sought in Sunset Beach after break-in

    The Sunset Beach Police Department is seeking a suspicious vehicle following a break-in Thursday afternoon, April 12, in Sea Trail.

    A residence off Rice Mill Circle was broken into by force. The residents were not home at the time of the entry.

    A suspicious vehicle has been identified as a four-door black Honda or Nissan with a white hood.

    Anyone seeing a vehicle matching this description is asked to contact the Sunset Beach Police Department at 910-579-2151 or 911 after hours and on weekends.

     

  • Leland police seek cash thief

    Leland police are looking for a man who stole almost $900 from a wallet belonging to a fellow Wal-Mart shopper.

    The thief took the money about 8:15 p.m. April 2 and left the store on New Pointe Boulevard in a black sedan, according to a police news release issued Thursday.

  • Leland man indicted on federal firearms charges

    A federal grand jury indicted a Leland man on possession of ammunition as a prohibited person and two counts of providing a false statement in connection with purchasing a firearm.

    Howard Joseph Burchfield, 36, faces up to 10 years in prison for each count if convicted, Robert J. Higdon Jr., U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of North Carolina, said in a news release issued Wednesday.

  • Warrants allege woman stole money after two break-ins in Shallotte

    A Shallotte woman is accused of stealing another woman’s money after two break-ins last moth.

    Melissa Ann Suggs, 29, of High Meadows Drive was arrested April 2 and charged with breaking or entering, larceny after breaking or entering, breaking or entering a motor vehicle, financial card theft and financial card fraud.

    Warrants show Suggs on March 11 broke into a Shallotte woman’s home and stole a coin jar containing $500 and broke into the woman’s car and stole a debit card, using it to get an undetermined amount of cash later that day.

  • Bolivia man accused of possessing illegal drugs, including mushrooms

    A Bolivia man is accused of possessing a variety of illegal drugs, including mushrooms.

    Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested Bobby Wayne McFarland, 24, of Green Lewis Road SE, on April 2 and charged him with possession with intent to sell or deliver marijuana, possession with intent to manufacture, sell or deliver a schedule I controlled substance, misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia and misdemeanor simple possession of a schedule II controlled substance.

  • Police arrest Southport man after meth lab discovery

    Boiling Spring Lakes police arrested a Southport man Saturday after being called to investigate a possible methamphetamine lab in the woods near a residence.

    Christopher Michael Vallee, 33, of Robin Road is charged with possession of precursor chemicals, possession of methamphetamine, manufacturing methamphetamine and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.

    Officers responded to the call about 10 a.m. at a home in the 1800 block of Beech Road, according to a police department news release.

  • County deputies charge Shallotte man with more than 20 felony sex crimes

    A Shallotte man is accused of sexually assaulting a woman, taking explicit photographs of her without her consent and sending those photos to her via text message and Facebook.

    Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested 42-year-old Juan Roberto Cruz of Copas Road on April 4 and charged him with disclosing private images of an adult, second-degree forced sex offense, and 20 counts of disseminating obscenities.

    Warrants show Cruz committed the crimes between April 1 and 3.

  • Investigators seek Leland man on felony sex crime charges

    The Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office is looking for a Leland man facing felony sex crimes.

    Deputies expect to charge 40-year-old Jesus Rocha Mendez of Andrew Jackson Highway with incest and sex act by substitute parent, according to a sheriff’s office Facebook post.

    Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call Detective Shannon Mylod at 508-7626 or 911.

  • Leland man pleads guilty in puppy’s beating death

    A Leland man accused of beating a puppy on Christmas Day pleaded guilty Tuesday to a charge of felony cruelty to animals.

    New Hanover County sheriff’s deputies arrested 21-year-old Christopher Anthony Simpson on Jan. 22 and charged him with felony cruelty to animals and misdemeanor cruelty to animals. Simpson was released the same day on $2,500 bail.

    Simpson was re-arrested Jan. 23 and his bail increased to $100,000.
