  • Sheriff’s office accreditation assessment team seeks public comment

    Sheriff John W. Ingram V announced a team of assessors from the Commission of Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies Inc. (CALEA) will arrive in Brunswick County on Monday, March 5. The team will examine all aspects of the sheriff’s office’s policy and procedures, management, operations and support services to verify it meets the commission’s standards.

  • Two 12-year-olds charged in threats at South Brunswick Middle School

    A 12-year-old South Brunswick Middle School student who said he was going to bring a gun to school and shoot people Tuesday has been suspended and charged with making a false report concerning mass violence on educational property. 

    “Students alerted school staff and the school resource officer (Ken Medlin) took the student into custody where he admitted to saying it. There is no believed danger to students,” Brunswick County Schools spokesman Daniel Seamans said in a news release issued early Tuesday afternoon.

  • Southport man wanted in bank robbery arrested

    A Southport man accused of robbing a Southport bank last week has been captured in Henderson, the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office said Tuesday.

    No other details about the arrest of 36-year-old Johnathan Brooks Faulkner, of East Boiling Spring Lakes Road, was available by press time Tuesday. He was wanted on a charge of robbery with a dangerous weapon.

    Investigators said a man robbed the Bank of America at 5070 Southport-Supply Road SE at 4:50 p.m. Feb. 14.

    Feb. 5

    Johnathon Williams, 17, of Freeboard Lane, Carolina Shores, was arrested on failure to register a motor vehicle and driving without a motorcycle license charges.

    Larry Fowler, 29, of Willow Street, Supply, was arrested on an assault on a female charge.

  • Leland man dies after Saturday motorcycle crash

    A 44-year-old Leland man died after crashing his motorcycle Saturday night in Brunswick County.

    Douglas Raymond Barker succumbed to injuries he suffered in the crash Sunday at New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington, N.C. State Highway Patrol 1st Sgt. Matthew W. King said in a news release issued Monday morning.

  • Wilmington man arrested in Sunset Beach armed robbery

    Officers arrested a Wilmington man Thursday, Feb. 8, in an armed robbery last year at Hardee’s in Sunset Beach.

    David Ashley Bates Sr., 46, is charged with possession of a firearm by a felon, communicating threats, and two counts each of robbery with a dangerous weapon, second-degree kidnapping and assault by pointing a gun.

    Sunset Beach police responded to the armed robbery just after 4 a.m. Sept. 22, 2017, at the restaurant at 1671 Seaside Road.

    David Genter, 38, of Summerset Road in Ocean Isle Beachwas charged with driving while intoxicated.

    Jan. 31

    Lucian Siccard, 20, of Palm Lakes Drive, Little River, S.C., was issued a state citation for possession of less than one-half ounce of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

  • Calabash Fire Department January 2018

    During the month of January 2018, the Calabash Fire Department responded to 188 calls: 10 structure fires, four woods/brush fires, a controlled burn, 10 fire alarms, two gas leaks, seven motor vehicle accidents, a rescue call, an investigation, 27 public assistance, two mutual aid, an other and 122 EMS first-response calls.
