  • Sheriff’s Corner: Exercise safety in the water with these tips

    Summer is here, and many citizens are already enjoying spending time in the water. Sadly, we have already lost several individuals in our area to drowning accidents. I would like to offer some tips for water safety for both swimming pools and the beach.

    For the swimming pool:

    •If no lifeguard is on duty, make sure children are accompanied by an adult who is familiar with CPR and life-saving techniques.

    •For your home pool, post CPR instructions and 911 reminders on signage around your pool

  • Sunset Beach police report

    Sunset Beach police investigated the following incidents.

    Larceny of four sets of golf clubs at Sandpiper Bay Golf Course, reported Monday, June 17. A perpetrator has been identified.

    Breaking-and-entering of motor vehicle, larceny of pocketbook and injury to personal property (broken window) at the gazebo parking lot on June 13.

    Larceny of weed eater and ladder on 37th Street, reported June 11.

    Breaking-and-entering and larceny reported June 11 on Dogwood Drive.

  • Shallotte Police crime report

    The Shallotte Police Department investigated the following incidents and made the following arrests in the last two weeks. All information is taken directly from police incident and arrest reports.

     

    June 5

    Breaking and entering and larceny of $120 wireless Internet device from vehicle parked on Whiteville Road.

    June 6

    James Manuel Galloway III, 40, 1860 Empire Road S.W., Supply, arrested on charge of failure to appear in court.

    Breaking and entering, larceny of $9,880 worth of jewelry from a house on East First Street.

    Attempted larceny of items from a house on Old Sound Bluff.

  • Calabash Fire Department monthly report

    During the month of May, the Calabash Fire Department responded to 122 calls: five structure fires, one woods/brush fire, seven fire alarms, 11 motor vehicle accidents, six other, and 92 EMS first-response calls.

    Brunswick County Sheriff’s deputies investigated the following incidents last week.

    June 4

    Burglary and larceny of a generator on Quail Ridge Loop, Leland.

    Breaking and entering and larceny of a chop saw on Royster Road, Navassa.

    Lost or stolen cell phone on Old Fayetteville Road, Leland.

    Burglary with forced entry and larceny of two packs of cigarettes and cash from a residence on Holden Beach Road, Supply.

  • BCSO Vice-Narcotics Task Force makes arrests

    Staff Report

    The Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office Vice-Narcotics Task Force made the following arrests last week:

    •Steven Albert Babson, 50, of Project Road NW, Ash, was arrested May 31 for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Babson had three 12-gauge shotguns, a 410 shotgun and a 22-caliber long gun. He was released the same day.

  • Sunset Beach crime report

    The Sunset Beach Police Department is investigating larceny of money from a local business.

    On June 5, it was reported a woman came into Bill’s Seafood on Sunset Boulevard, hit the no-sale button and removed money from the cash register.

    The theft of golf clubs was reported June 7 at Sea Trail. Two men had gone inside Jones-Byrd Clubhouse when someone took off in their golf cart, which had two sets of golf clubs in the back. The golf cart was later recovered, but the golf clubs are still missing, Sunset Beach Police Chief Lisa Massey said.

    Vandalism on Jackey’s Creek Lane, Leland.

    Simple physical assault on North Howe Street, Southport.

    Fraud on Dale Avenue, Ocean Isle Beach.

    Assault on a female on Sandpiper Drive, Ocean Isle Beach.

    Assault and assault by pointing a gun on Easterly Drive, Supply.
