  • Shallotte crime report

    Shallotte police charged the following people and investigated following incidents last week. All information is taken directly from police reports.

    •Breaking and entering and larceny from coin-operated machines at the N.C. Department of Motor Vehicles, GoGas and Black’s Tire, causing $500 in damage to and stealing $100 from each machine. An officer was able to lift fingerprints and has put in a request for surveillance video.

    •Larceny of medication on Brooks Court; suspect took $5 worth of Carisoprodol pills from victim’s house.

  • Suspects arrested in break-in at Rutledge Community Center

    Detectives with the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office have arrested two suspects in connection with a break-in reported at the Rutledge Community Center near Shallotte.

    Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Sgt. April Stanley said detectives arrested Jennifer Kathleen Lewis on June 18.

    A second suspect, Merton Robert Gainey III, was arrested Monday, June 21, Stanley said.

  • Shallotte man arrested for shooting roommate

    SHALLOTTE—A Shallotte man was arrested Thursday evening for allegedly shooting his roommate.

    Michael Lindy McDuffie, 44, of 4532 Rounding Run Road, Shallotte, was arrested Thursday evening and charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Sgt. April Stanley said.

  • Brennick charged with murder in vehicular death of Satu Harris

    Daniel Brennick, the driver of the car that struck and killed 38-year-old Satu Harris, was charged with murder Thursday.

    District attorney Rex Gore said Brennick, who was previously charged with driving while impaired for the fatal wreck, was charged with second-degree murder in Brunswick County Court on Thursday.

    Brennick was scheduled to be taken to Central Prison in Raleigh, a hospital-type facility, for “safe keeping,” Gore said, due to the injuries he sustained in the wreck.

    Brennick was given a $100,000 secured bond.

  • Detectives search for two suspects wanted in Shallotte robbery

    SHALLOTTE—Detectives with the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office are searching for two suspects they say were involved in an early-morning robbery Tuesday.

    According to Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Sgt. April Stanley, around 4:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 15, James Frederick Burriss and Ann Marie Jackson were involved in a robbery at 4405 Rounding Run Road in Shallotte.

    Stanley said Burriss and Jackson are believed to be driving a grey 2007 Lincoln Continental with 30-day tags.

  • New county ordinance to require mandatory reporting by pawnshops, scrap metal dealers

    A new county ordinance will require pawnshops and scrap metal dealers to report receipts of all goods purchased and pawned, and local law enforcement officers say this will help close cases.

    Brunswick County commissioners at their June 7 meeting adopted electronic record keeping requirements for pawnbrokers and scrap or surplus dealers.

    “We had a volunteer system where pawn brokers, scrap metal dealers complied voluntarily except for a couple,” Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office detectives Capt. Gene Caison said.

  • New trial date set for West Virginia man accused of raping girl in Brunswick

    A new trial date has been set for a West Virginia man accused of raping a girl in Brunswick County in 2008.

    Adam Wesley Hudson, 19, of 342 ½ Witcher Road, Belle, W.Va., has a new trial date of Aug. 23, according to the district attorney’s office.

    Hudson first went to trial in July 2009, but the trial ended in a hung jury, with jurors deadlocked in 10-2 in favor of acquittal, assistant district attorney Meredith Everhart, who prosecutes sex offenses and child abuse cases, said in a previous interview with the Beacon.

  • Sunset Beach man arrested for operating mushroom lab

    SUNSET BEACH—A Sunset Beach man has been arrested and charged with manufacturing marijuana and mushrooms.

    According to a sheriff’s office press release, drug agents with the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office Drug Enforcement Unit arrested Ronald Ishman Grimsley, 20, of 8922 Carra Lane, Sunset Beach, on June 4.

    After executing a search warrant at Grimsley’s Sunset Beach home, drug agents discovered a clandestine laboratory, where drug agents seized 47 grams of Psilocybin mushrooms, 32 grams of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

  • Brunswick County Sheriff's Office crime report

    Brunswick County Sheriff’s deputies investigated the following incidents last week, which are taken directly from sheriff’s office incident reports:

    •Larceny on Crabapple Road; suspect stole a washer, dryer and two air conditioning units from victim’s residence.

    •Breaking and entering, larceny and property damage on Wood Treatment Road in Leland; suspect cut locks on victim’s trailer and stole a torch kit and a saw.

    •Larceny on Shoreline Drive SW in Supply; suspect stole victim’s water pump.

  • Brunswick fugitive arrested in Texas, extradited back to North Carolina

    An anonymous tip has led to the arrest of a Brunswick County fugitive who was living in Texas.

    According to Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Sgt. April Stanley, the sheriff’s office received an anonymous tip on its tip line May 19 about a wanted suspect, John Carl Wilson.
