The K-9 enforcement team answers calls, conducts driver’s license checkpoints and assists with other agencies when K-9s are needed.

From June 7-13, K-9 deputies answered 17 calls, wrote nine citations and made eight drug arrests.

Charges included three possession of marijuana charges and nine possession of drug paraphernalia charges.

K-9 deputies patrolled the following communities: Magnolia Greens, Shell Point Acres, Seashore Hills, Forest Hills and Supply.

A Holden Beach man was charged with driving while impaired and careless and reckless driving after a crash on the Holden Beach bridge delayed traffic for several hours.

Tony Lynn Whittington, 56, of 299 Sandpiper Drive, Holden Beach, was charged with driving while impaired and careless and reckless driving on Friday, June 4.

Shallotte police charged the following people and investigated the following incidents during the past week. All information is taken directly from police reports.

•Police charged Jack Russell Bellamy, 68, of 1520 Hickman Road NW, Calabash, with failure to yield right-of-way after a wreck on Main Street and Sellers Road in which his 2005 Ford was rear-ended by a 2005 Honda driven by Patrician Ann Morgan, 33, of 1538 North Wind Drive, Ocean Isle Beach.

SUNSET BEACH—Police investigated a motor vehicle break-in and larceny reported June 7 on Sailfish Drive. A cell phone was stolen from an unlocked vehicle.

Another car break-in and larceny were reported June 8 on Sixth Street. A purse and wallet, credit cards, money and personal checks were stolen. The purse was recovered from the waterway.

Damage to personal property was reported June 8. Someone slashed a tire in the Food Lion parking lot.
