  • Ocean Isle Beach Crime Report

    The Ocean Isle Beach Police Department investigated the following incidents and made the following arrests last week. All information is taken directly from police incident and arrest reports.

    •March 21: It was reported that an unknown subjected entered a home on Ocean Isle West Boulevard and removed two flat-screen televisions.

  • Men charged with possession of stolen goods

    SUNSET BEACH—Two out-of-town men have been charged with possession of stolen goods following a routine traffic stop.

    Jeremy Lee Williams, 25, of 5636 West Market St., Apt. G, Greensboro, was charged with possession of a stolen license plate.

    Derek Lee Underwood, 25, of 228 Kent St., Apt. A, Burlington, was charged with possession of steaks stolen from Food Lion in Sunset Beach.

    The charges were made March 31. The two were staying in the area just outside of Sunset Beach, according to Sunset Beach Police Det. Joe Smith.

  • Supply man charged with evading police

    A Supply man faces multiple charges, including evading arrest, after sheriff’s deputies say he ran through a checkpoint, leading deputies on a pursuit.

    Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Sgt. Del Routh said Malik Nahaim McNeil, 21, of 1777 Turkey Trap Road, Supply, was arrested after he ran through a driver’s license checkpoint set up by sheriff’s office ACE deputies at the intersection of McMilly Road and Old Shallotte Road in Shallotte on March 31.

  • Drug agents arrest 39 in Operation March Madness

    BOLIVIA—The following suspects were charged in connection with a countywide drug roundup dubbed Operation March Madness by the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office.

    The sheriff’s office typically conducts two large-scale countywide drug roundups each year, according to sheriff’s office spokesman Sgt. Del Routh.

    In all, 39 suspects were charged.

  • Brunswick County Sheriff's Office crime report

    Brunswick County Sheriff’s deputies investigated the following incidents between March 26 and April 1:

    •Vandalism on Dosher Cutoff in Southport; suspect broke right arm off a statue of Jesus Christ at Sacred Heart Church.

    •Criminal damage to property on Polybranch Road SW in Supply; suspect damaged victim’s mailbox and post.

    •Vandalism at intersection of Airport Road and Southpointe Drive in Southport; suspect caused $400 in damage to landscaping.

    •Fraud on Barclay Road in Southport.

  • Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office Special Operations Team

    The special operations team at the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office includes the K-9 enforcement team and Aggressive Criminal Enforcement (ACE) Team.

    The ACE Team is a support unit whose primary functions are traffic enforcement and assisting in the apprehension of drug traffickers in the county.

    From March 26-April 1, special operations set up checkpoints on Lanvale Road, Hickman Road, N.C. 211, Union School Road, McMilly Road, Shell Point Road, Old Ocean Highway, Stanley Road, U.S. 74, Grey Bridge Road, Old Shallotte Road.

  • Leland man charged with trafficking heroin

    Agents with the Brunswick County Vice Narcotics Unit have charged a Leland man with multiple narcotics charges, including two counts of trafficking cocaine.

    Michael Wayne Fasnacht, 31, of 377 Lansan Lane, Lot 8, Leland, was charged with two counts of trafficking opium or heroin, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession with intent to manufacture, sell and deliver heroin and possession of a firearm by a felon.

  • Deputies search for suspect who led authorities on multi-county chase

    A Wilmington man led sheriff’s deputies on a two-county chase before his vehicle crashed into a physician’s office in neighboring Columbus County.

    Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Sgt. Del Routh said authorities are searching for 32-year-old Calvin Lee Maynor of Wilmington.

    Routh said around 7:40 p.m. Monday, April 2, Cpl. Brian Medlin was running radar on U.S. 74-76 near the Columbus County line, when a vehicle was picked up on the radar for speeding.

  • Detention officer fired, arrested for drug possession

    BOLIVIA—A detention officer at the Brunswick County Detention Center was arrested for drug possession Wednesday and fired immediately following his arrest.

    Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Sgt. Del Routh said Bryan Marshburn, 56, of 55 Burton Road, Southport, was arrested and charged by agents with the sheriff’s office vice narcotics unit Wednesday, March 28.

  • Shallotte Crime Report

    The Shallotte Police Department investigated the following incidents and made the following arrests last week. All information is taken directly from police incident and arrest reports.

    •Assault on a female and disturbing the peace in the parking lot of the Kangaroo on Main Street; suspect pulled the victim’s hair and slammed her into a vehicle.

    •Dwight Sylvester Powell Jr., 24, of 2624 Sander’s Forest Drive, Shallotte, was charged with assault on a female in the Kangaroo parking lot.
