  • Brunswick County Sheriff's Office crime report

    Brunswick County Sheriff’s deputies investigated the following incidents last week, which are taken directly from sheriff’s office incident reports:

     •Vandalism on Cherokee Avenue in Supply; suspect damaged victim’s heat pump.

    •Breaking and entering and larceny on Blackwell Road in Leland; suspect stole 100 aluminum wheels from victim’s business.

    •Vandalism on Copley Lane in Supply; suspect shot victim’s pet rabbit.

  • State, local law enforcement remember fallen officers in annual Peace Officers Memorial Day

    SHALLOTTE—Jan. 18, 2005, is a day Larry Prince won’t soon forget. It was the day his son, Boiling Spring Lakes Police Officer Mitch Prince, was killed in the line of duty.

    Just as Christopher William’s family won’t soon forget June 16, 2006, the day the Wilmington Police officer was killed, the family of Richard Matthews won’t soon forget Feb. 18, 2009, when another Wilmington police officer was killed.

  • Brunswick County Sheriff's Office ACE roundup

    The Aggressive Criminal Enforcement (ACE) Team is a support unit, whose primary functions are traffic enforcement and assisting in the apprehension of drug traffickers in the county. The ACE team conducts driving while impaired and driver’s license checkpoints, as well as street-level investigations on controlled substances.
    The ACE team works with the sheriff’s office K-9 Enforcement Team and Drug Enforcement Unit to apprehend narcotics suspects as well as saturating hot spots where criminal activity is reported.

  • Two women arrested in Shallotte prostitution sting

    Two women were recently arrested in a prostitution sting in Shallotte.

    According to Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Sgt. April Stanley, agents with the Brunswick County Vice Narcotic Unit arrested the two women May 7.

    Agents also seized cocaine, Xanax and a smoking pipe during the arrest.

    •Melissa Gail Woods, 34, 0f 1288 Sasspan Drive, Shallotte, was arrested and charged with solicit prostitution, solicit crimes against nature, misdemeanor conspiracy and non-support of a child.

  • Shallotte Police searching for check scammer, accomplice

    SHALLOTTE—Shallotte Police are searching for a suspect involved in a check scam.

    Shallotte Police Sgt. Eric King said a male suspect has been repeatedly using stolen checks and IDs at the Shallotte Walmart.

    “The case involves the suspect using victim’s checking account numbers that have been taken from the victim’s mailboxes in Brunswick County area and the suspect uses the victim’s ID number and makes a fake ID card, which he shows at Walmart when asked for ID,” King explained.

  • Mother of murder suspect arrested for attempting to smuggle weapon to son in jail

    BOLIVIA—A Supply woman has joined her son in jail after attempting to bring him a weapon while in custody.

    According to Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson April Stanley, Delphia Mae Marlow Bryant, 76, of 1820 Stone Chimney Road, was arrested for attempting to smuggle a weapon to her son, murder suspect Craig Bryant, in the Brunswick County Detention Center.

  • Sheriff’s deputy injured in wreck; Driver charged with DWI

    A Brunswick County Sheriff’s deputy was injured in a wreck when an impaired driver ran into his vehicle.

    Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office Spokesperson Sgt. April Stanley said deputy Jeremy Borowski “placed himself in harm’s way” to protect other drivers on the road from the impaired driver, who was later arrested. 

    Stanley said around 11:45 p.m. Wednesday, May 4, the county’s 911 center received several calls about a reckless driver traveling east in the westbound lane on U.S. 74-76 in Leland.

  • Ocean Isle Beach Crime Report

    The Ocean Isle Beach Police Department investigated the following incidents within the past two weeks. Information is taken directly from police reports.

    •Breaking and entering and larceny at the Winnabow beach access; suspect entered vehicle and took a debit card, driver’s license and miscellaneous items.

    •Larceny at the Winnabow beach access; suspect entered vehicle and took victim’s purse, which contained a cell phone, prescription glasses, camera, bank card, gas card, credit card, other cards, a driver’s license, $40 and keys.

  • Suspects wanted for coin machine larceny

    The Brunswick County South End Task Force is searching for three suspects wanted for breaking and entering and larceny of money from a change machine at the Ocean Isle Beach Fishing Pier.

    Ocean Isle Beach Assistant Police Chief Ken Bellamy said the incident took place about 7:15 p.m. Saturday, April 30. Anyone with information is asked to call the Ocean Isle Beach Police Department at 579-4221.

  • Shallotte Crime Report

    The Shallotte Police Department investigated the following incidents and made the following arrests last week. All information is taken directly from police incident and arrest reports.

    •Holly Nichole Thomas, 22, of 4824 Pigott Road, Shallotte, was arrested for drunk and disruptive at McDonald’s. The subject was having a disagreement with her boyfriend and making rude comments in front of customers. She refused to leave when officers asked her to and began making a scene.
