  • Shallotte man arrested for rape on Holden Beach

    A Shallotte man has been arrested and charged with rape.

    According to Holden Beach Police Sgt. Justin Hewett, Joshua Ray George, 18, of 536 Columbus St., Shallotte, was arrested on May 31 and charged with second-degree rape.

    Hewett said a 15-year-old girl reported being raped on the beach strand at 109 Ocean Boulevard West on Holden Beach island on May 29.

    The Brunswick Beacon does not identify victims of sexual assault.

    George was taken to the Brunswick County Detention Center and placed under a $200,000 secured bond.

  • Thefts, DWI investigated in Sunset Beach

    SUNSET BEACH—Town police reported the following incidents in the past week:

    •Breaking and entering and larceny of a motor vehicle were reported on Medcalf Lane.

    •Daniel Scott Manning, 25, of Chapel Hill, was arrested and charged June 3 with DWI on Sunset Boulevard.

    •A man on Medcalf Lane reported an identity theft June 2.

    •A larceny of potted plants and containers from property was reported June 2 at Sloan Realty, 420 Sunset Blvd.

  • Drug robbery at CVS in Sunset Beach

    SUNSET BEACH—A man robbed a local CVS store of drugs one afternoon last week, then made his getaway through a drive-through window and ran into the woods.

    A suspect entered the store around 2 p.m. Thursday, May 26, and handed a note to a clerk at the pharmacy counter. The note said the suspect had a gun and demanded OxyContin and oxycodone.

    The clerk then handed the note to the pharmacist, and drugs were given to the suspect.

    The suspect is described as a white male dressed in a white T-shirt, skinny jeans and a white baseball cap.

  • Longwood man arrested for shooting

    LONGWOOD—Brunswick County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a local man Wednesday, May 25, for a shooting in Longwood earlier in the week.

    Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Sgt. April Stanley said sheriff’s deputies responded to a home at 7688 Etheridge Road in Longwood on Monday, May 23.

    When they arrived at the home, deputies found two victims who had suffered gunshot wounds, Stanley said.

  • Three suspects arrested for trying to pass fraudulent prescriptions

    An investigation that began in New Hanover County recently led agents with the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office Drug Enforcement Unit, Shallotte Police Department, New Hanover County Vice-Narcotics Unit and the Columbus County Drug Enforcement to three arrests in the Leland area.

    According to Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Sgt. April Stanley, agents arrested Jeremy Paul Clowdus and Kenneth Anthony Hewett after the suspects attempted to pass a fraudulent prescription at Thomas Drugs in Shallotte.

    The K-9 enforcement team answers calls, conducts driver’s license checkpoints and assists with other agencies when K-9s are needed.

    From May 16-22, K-9 deputies issued four citations and nine drug arrests.

  • Shallotte man arrested

    Agents with the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office Drug Enforcement Unit and the Vice Narcotics Unit served a search warrant on two Shallotte residences last week, which resulted in the arrest of a local man.

    Around 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 17, drug agents served a search warrant at 800 McMilly Road, where they recovered assorted drug paraphernalia and other evidence consistent with manufacturing crack cocaine, Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Sgt. April Stanley said.

  • Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office drug report

    On May 18, agents with the Brunswick County Vice Narcotics Unit and the sheriff’s office K-9 unit performed a traffic stop in Longwood, which resulted in the arrest of two suspects.

    Agents then obtained a search warrant for a home at 2165 Sweet Baby Lane NE in Longwood. During the search of the home, agents seized more than one-half pound of marijuana, $760 in cash and drug paraphernalia, including packaging bags, digital scales and smoking devices.

  • Brunswick County ACE roundup

    The Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office Aggressive Criminal Enforcement (ACE) Team is a support unit, whose primary functions are traffic enforcement and assisting in the apprehension of drug traffickers in the county.

    From May 16-22, ACE deputies issued 61 total arrests and citations, including two driving while impaired charges and 11 speed violations.

    The following suspects were charged:

    •Lee Matthew Callazo, 40, of 4476 Northwest Road, Leland, was charged with driving while impaired and driving while license revoked.

  • Brunswick County Sheriff's Office crime report

    Brunswick County Sheriff’s deputies investigated the following incidents last week, which are taken directly from sheriff’s office incident reports:

    •Communicating threats via telephone; suspect called and threatened wife.

    •Property damage on Elk Road in Supply; suspect cut tires on victim’s vehicle.

    •Larceny on Sabbath Home Road in Supply; suspect stole items from victim’s business, including eight rib-eye steaks, two cases of beer and one bag of dog food.
