  • Two arrested for stolen golf carts, utility trailers in Ocean Isle Beach

    OCEAN ISLE BEACH—Brunswick County Sheriff’s detectives have arrested two suspects for golf cart and utility trailer thefts in the Ocean Isle Beach and Sunset Beach areas.

    Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office detective Chris Barbour said detectives recovered two golf carts and one utility trailer stolen from the mainland Ocean Isle Beach and Sunset Beach areas.

    Robert Dion Maldanado and Gary Lynn Thompson were arrested for the thefts May 5.

  • Oak Island woman killed by drunk driver

    An Oak Island woman and mother of three was killed Friday night when her car was struck head-on by a drunk driver.

    Satu Harris, 38, of Oak Island, died Friday, May 7, when her car was hit head-on by a truck driven by Daniel Harrison Brennick, according to a N.C. State Highway Patrol report.

    Brennick, 22, of Southport, was driving a 2002 Chevrolet pickup truck north on N.C. 133 about 3.5 miles north of Southport around 11:29 p.m. May 7.

    The Aggressive Criminal Enforcement (ACE) Team is a support unit, whose primary functions are traffic enforcement and assisting in the apprehension of drug traffickers in the county. The ACE team conducts driving while impaired and driver’s license checkpoints, as well as street-level investigations on controlled substances.

  • Brunswick County Sheriff's Office crime report

    Brunswick County Sheriff’s deputies investigated the following incidents last week, which are taken directly from sheriff’s office incident reports:

    •Stolen purse on Holden Beach Road; suspect stole victim’s purse from the side of the road.

    •Property damage and larceny on Chadwick Landing Road in Shallotte; suspect cut victim’s gas line and stole a gas tank.

    •Larceny on Chadwick Landing Road in Shallotte; suspect stole jewelry from victim’s jewelry box.

  • Brunswick County Sheriff's Office K-9 Enforcement Team roundup

    The K-9 enforcement team answers calls, conducts driver’s license checkpoints and assists with other agencies when K-9s are needed.

    From May 3-9, K-9 deputies answered 13 calls, wrote 10 citations and made five drug arrests, including four possession of marijuana charges, five possession of drug paraphernalia charges and one possession of a schedule II controlled substance charge.

    K-9 deputies found 23 grams of marijuana and one Concerta pill.

  • Shallotte crime report

    Shallotte police charged the following people and investigated the following incidents last week. All information is taken directly from police reports.

    •Police charged Shady Leonard Daniels III, 29, of 5161 Lakewood Drive, Shallotte, with two counts of worthless check and one count of obtaining property by false pretense. He was taken to the Brunswick County Detention Center.

    •Police charged William David Salmon, 20, of 143 Wall St., Shallotte, with domestic assault. He was taken to the Brunswick County Detention Center under no bond.

  • Ocean Isle Beach man arrested for stealing steaks from Lowes Foods

     An Ocean Isle Beach man has been arrested for allegedly stealing steaks from a local grocery store and pulling a knife on an employee.

    According to Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Sgt. April Stanley, Joseph Earl Hill, 56, of 1046 Hale Swamp Road, Ocean Isle Beach, was arrested April 24 for allegedly stealing steaks from Lowes Foods on Beach Drive in Ocean Isle Beach.

    Hill was charged with one count of assault and battery and one count of shoplifting concealment of goods.

  • Teen charged with Leland break-ins

    Brunswick County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a Leland teen for a string of break-ins in the Town Creek Road and Palmer’s Branch area of Leland.

    According to Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Sgt. April Stanley, Brunswick County Sheriff’s detectives Mike Murray and Justin Stadler charged Damian Michael Swan with multiple felony charges for a string of break-ins between April 21 and April 28.

  • Holden Beach crime report

    Holden Beach Police investigated the following incidents and made the following arrests from April 27 until May 4:

    •Kristina Marie MacCall, 23, of 409 Cox Maddox Road, Sanford, was charged with driving while license revoked on April 25.

    •Johnny Truman Holden, 23, of 2311 Field St., Supply, was charged with driving while license revoked on April 28.

    •Brian Keith Garner, 30, of 3110 Old Ferry Road, Supply, was charged with failure to appear for a operating a vehicle with no insurance charge on April 28.

  • Men arrested in Sunset Beach

    SUNSET BEACH—Police arrested a man April 25 in connection with an incident at Fibber McGees pub.

    Thomas Allen Gallagher, 32, was charged with delaying and obstructing justice after he got into an altercation with another man at the establishment on Queen Anne Street, deputy chief Steve Smith said.

    Damage to personal property was reported when someone returned the following morning to retrieve Gallagher’s mother’s car from the parking lot. All four tires on the vehicle had been slashed, Smith said.
