  • Reward offered in stolen boat lift larceny

    A reward is being offered for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the suspect or suspects who stole a hydraulic lift system off a yacht near Holden Beach.

    Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office Detective Ed Carter said a $20,000 hydraulic lift system was stolen off a 36-foot yacht in dry dock storage at Hewett’s Marina on B-Var Street in Supply sometime between July 30 and Aug. 4.

    In addition to the lift system, the suspect or suspects stole about 50 linear feet of steel railing.

  • Sheriff’s office joint operation leads to several arrests

    A joint operation with Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office Drug Enforcement Unit, Aggressive Criminal Enforcement (ACE) Team and K-9 Enforcement Unit led to multiple arrests last week.

    According to Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Sgt. April Stanley, a traffic stop Aug. 7 at the Go Gas in Southport led to the seizure of 75 grams of marijuana, drug paraphernalia and more than $2,100 in cash.

    Agents arrested Chad Nathan McHenry at the scene without incident.

    The Aggressive Criminal Enforcement (ACE) Team is a support unit, whose primary functions are traffic enforcement and assisting in the apprehension of drug traffickers in the county. The ACE team conducts driving while impaired and driver’s license checkpoints, as well as street-level investigations on controlled substances.

  • Brunswick County Sheriff's Office crime report

    Brunswick County Sheriff’s deputies investigated the following incidents last week, which are taken directly from sheriff’s office incident reports:

    •Structure fire on Chapel Loop Road in Leland; fire started on victim’s porch and burnt his residence.

    •Larceny on Southgate Boulevard in Southport; suspect stole victim’s vehicle.

    •Breaking and entering, larceny and property damage on Buckeye Street SW in Supply; suspect pried open victim’s shed door and stole a lawn mower.

  • Shallotte attorney arrested for assaulting brother with tractor

    A Shallotte attorney has been arrested on multiple charges, including assaulting his brother with a tractor and threatening his life.

    Mack Leon Hewett, 56, of 348 Lora Valley, Shallotte, was arrested around 9:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 7, according to Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Sgt. April Stanley.

    Hewett was charged with first-degree burglary, second-degree trespassing, assault with a deadly weapon, simple assault and communicating threats, Stanley said.

  • Update: Missing teen returns home

    Update: According to a Brunswick County Sheriff's Office press release sent Friday morning, Brittany Michelle Cordell has returned home.

    Detectives with the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office are searching for a missing teen.

    Brittany Michelle Cordell, 14, was last seen at her Supply home just before 12 a.m. Wednesday.

  • Update: Missing teen returns home

    Update: According to the Brunswick County Sheriff's Office, Tyquanna Bullard returned home Wednesday.

    Detectives with the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office are searching for a missing teen.

    According to Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Sgt. April Stanley, Tyquanna Shaquitta Bullard, 16, of Leland, has been missing since July 12.

    Bullard was reported missing Aug. 3.

  • Brunswick County Sheriff's Office K-9 Enforcement Team roundup

    The K-9 enforcement team answers calls, conducts driver’s license checkpoints and assists with other agencies when K-9s are needed.

    From July 26-Aug. 1, K-9 deputies answered 15 calls, wrote five citations and made two drug arrests.

    K-9 deputies conducted checkpoints at South Navassa Road and N.C. 211 at Little Macedonia Road.

    The following suspects were charged:

    •Gina Larae Wilson, 34, of 5110 Mill Branch Road, Ash; charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.

  • Holden Beach crime report

    Holden Beach Police charged the following suspects and investigated the following incidents last week:

    •Maniel Wayne Evans, 38, of Supply, was arrested in Lancaster, S.C., and transported back to North Carolina on felony charges from 2009. Evans was charged with breaking and entering to a motor vehicle, larceny from a motor vehicle, credit card theft and credit card fraud.

    •Dennis Raymond Dempsey, 41, of Madison, Ohio, was charged with property damage for pushing another vehicle with his own.

  • Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office Drug Report

    UPDATE: Jay Jenrette turned himself into the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday. He was taken to the detention center, where he was placed under a $10,500 secured bond.

    On July 30, agents with the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office Drug Enforcement Unit and the SWAT team executed a search and seizure warrant for drug violations at 583 Tree Acres Circle in the Pine Crest community near Calabash.
