  • Second suspect in Realtor’s murder released on bond

    Lora Moultrie, one of two suspects charged with the April 2008 murder of Shallotte Realtor Adam Bradshaw, has been released on bond.

    District Attorney Rex Gore said Moultrie was released on a $200,000 bond Tuesday morning.

    Moultrie, along with Craig Bryant, were arrested and charged with Bradshaw’s murder on May 8, 2008. Bryant was released on house arrest on a $310,000 bond in November 2009.

    No trial date for either suspect has been set, Gore said, but he added a date might be set as early as next week during a case management session.

  • Brunswick County Sheriff's Office K-9 Enforcement Team roundup

    The K-9 enforcement team answers calls, conducts driver’s license checkpoints and assists with other agencies when K-9s are needed.

    From April 19-25, K-9 deputies answered 15 calls, wrote 10 citations and made eight drug arrests. K-9 deputies patrolled the following communities: Sea Trail, St. James, Sunset Harbor and Ocean Ridge.

    The following suspects were charged:

    •Tamorris Lakenya Webster, 17, of 1640 Vera Road, Longs, S.C.; charged with possession of one-half ounce or less of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

    Brunswick County Sheriff’s deputies investigated the following incidents last week, which are taken directly from sheriff’s office incident reports:

    •Breaking and entering, larceny and property damage on Brandon Drive in Leland; suspect broke into victim’s house and stole items and damaged a crib.

    •Larceny on Athens Street in Calabash; suspect stole victim’s laptop and laptop charger from home.

  • Brunswick County Sheriff's Office ACE roundup

    The Aggressive Criminal Enforcement (ACE) Team is a support unit, whose primary functions are traffic enforcement and assisting in the apprehension of drug traffickers in the county. The ACE team conducts driving while impaired and driver’s license checkpoints, as well as street-level investigations on controlled substances.

    •Breaking and entering to a coin machine at Marathon Gas Station on Causeway Drive; the lock was cutoff of an air machine.

    •Taylor Ian MacDonald, 19, of Pinehurst; charged with underage possession of alcohol on Concord Street.

    •Charles Edward Lineberger, 18, of Pinehurst; charged with underage possession of alcohol on Concord Street.

  • Man charged with DWI in accident involving school bus

    An Ocean Isle Beach man has been charged with driving while impaired, driving while license revoked and failure to reduce speed in connection with a three-car wreck in Shallotte last week that sent one woman to a hospital and involved a school bus.

    Leslie Wayne Jester Jr., 24, of 422 Kill Deer, Ocean Isle Beach, was taken to the Brunswick County Detention Center on a $3,000 secured bond after an officer who responded to the accident smelled alcohol on him and in his car, according to the police report.

  • DSS social work supervisor charged with DWI

    A Brunswick County Department of Social Services social work supervisor who oversees the adoption and foster care units was charged early Monday morning in Wilmington with driving while impaired and reckless driving to endanger.

    According to Cpl. Jerry Brewer of the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office, Kathy Jo Battles, 47, of 4301 O’Neal Place, Wilmington, was arrested at about 2 a.m. Monday, April 26, in the 2100 block of North College Road.

    She was booked in the New Hanover County Detention Center and posted a $1,000 bond.

  • Shallotte crime report

    Shallotte police charged the following people and investigated following incidents last week. All information is taken directly from police reports.

    •Police charged Charles Dupree Norris, 46, of 661 Dosher Road, Chadbourn, with felony possession of cocaine and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia after an officer stopped his car for having fictitious plates. The officer had a K-9 walk around the vehicle, and it indicated the car contained drugs.

  • Armed robbery suspects captured in Brunswick County

    Two suspects wanted for armed robbery in Robeson County were arrested April 20 in Winnabow.

    According to Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office Spokesperson Sgt. April Stanley, FBI agents notified the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office that two armed robbery suspects from Red Springs were believed to be in Brunswick County.

    The two suspects, Reginald Stubbs and Rodrick Stubbs, were wanted on outstanding warrants for robbery with a dangerous weapon, second-degree kidnapping and assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury.
