  • Sunset Beach crime report

    The Sunset Beach Police Department investigated the following reports.

    Obtaining property by false pretense, reported May 29 on Magnolia Drive. A man was paid for yard work he didn’t do.

    A license tag was reported stolen or lost off a vehicle May 30 on Sandpiper Bay Drive.

    Breaking-and-entering and larceny of a motor vehicle, larceny of a firearm and property damage to vehicle, reported June 1 at Royal Post Road. The console of a topless Jeep was damaged and opened for removal and theft of a firearm.

  • Leland Police crime reports

    The Leland Police Department investigated the following incidents two weeks ago.

    May 14

    Obtaining property by false pretense on Village Road, Leland.

    Found property on Village Road, Leland.

    May 15

    Larceny of a vehicle registration plate on Village Road, Leland.

    Larceny of a cooling compressor on Village Road, Leland.

    May 16

    Larceny of a bicycle on Parsley Lane, Leland.

  • BCSO detectives search for missing trailers

    Detectives with the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office are seeking assistance from the public in locating a tractor trailer and lowboy trailer. Sometime during the month of April, a Kenworth tractor trailer along with a lowboy trailer were stolen from Wayne’s Backhoe Service at the intersection of Thomasboro Road and U.S. 17, Calabash. Wayne’s Backhoe is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the location of these trailers.

  • Sunset Beach crime report

    The Sunset Beach Police Department investigated two car break-ins reported in the past week.

    On May 26, larceny of a backpack, laptop, camera, passport, cards, prescription medicine, glasses and other miscellaneous personal items was reported to a motor vehicle on Kings Trail.

    On May 20, a pocketbook was reported stolen from an unlocked vehicle at Food Lion.

    May 4

    Ryan Callahan Watson, 34, 20 Birch Pond Drive, Apt. 8, charged with misdemeanor simple assault.

    May 6

    Larceny and vandalism of home on Kimberly Ann Lane.

    Property damage; tire slashed in Walmart parking lot causing $130 damage.

  • Holden Beach crime report

    The Holden Beach Police Department investigated the following incidents and made the following arrests in the last two weeks. All information is taken directly from police incident and arrest reports.

    May 1

    Breaking and entering; suspect took miscellaneous items worth $45 from a home on Marlin Drive.

    May 11

    Breaking and entering—forcible entry and larceny of a flat-screen television from a home on Ocean Boulevard West.

  • Leland Police crime report

    Police responded to 113 Old Fayetteville Road at 7:31p.m. May 5in reference to a

    report of a shooting.

    According to Lt. Joseph Pierce, the suspect is a juvenile and is in custody.

    The victim is recovering in the Intensive Care Unit at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

    “Due to the fact that this is an ongoing investigation, no other information can be released at this time, Pierce said in a statement.

     

  • Sunset Beach police arrest man after tracking stolen phone

    SUNSET BEACH—A 22-year-old man has been arrested after local police tracked him with a stolen cell phone.

    Daniel Castillo, 22, of 24 Boundary Loop Road in the Carolina Shores North community, was charged May 2.

    Sunset Beach Police Det. Woody Dunn said an Android phone was reported stolen that same day from the counter of the Market Express store on Seaside Road.

    The phone’s owner had placed the phone on the counter when it was stolen.

  • Calabash Fire Department report

    During the month of April, the Calabash Fire Department responded to 142 calls: six structure fires, seven fire alarms, one woods/brush fire, eight motor-vehicle accidents, 11 other, and 109 EMS first-response calls.

    April 20

    Anita Ladner Russo, 56, 1354 Navaho Trail, Wilmington, charged with misdemeanor larceny.

    April 21

    Death investigation on Orchard Loop Road.

    April 22

    Daniel James Redman, 37, 119 Lincoln Place Circle, Leland, arrested for driving while impaired.
