    Shallotte police charged the following people and investigated following incidents last week. All information is taken directly from police reports.

  • Brunswick County Sheriff's Office ACE roundup

    The Aggressive Criminal Enforcement (ACE) Team is a support unit, whose primary functions are traffic enforcement and assisting in the apprehension of drug traffickers in the county. The ACE team conducts driving while impaired and driver’s license checkpoints, as well as street-level investigations on controlled substances.
    The ACE team works with the sheriff’s office K-9 Enforcement Team and Drug Enforcement Unit to apprehend narcotics suspects as well as saturating hot spots where criminal activity is reported.

  • Leland man arrested for stabbing girlfriend

    LELAND—A Leland man was arrested last week after allegedly stabbing his girlfriend with a pair of scissors.

    According to an arrest report, Kevin Phillip Schumacher, 45, of 8760 Body Shop Drive, Leland, was charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury and assault on a female on May 29.

    Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Sgt. April Stanley said Schumacher was taken to the Brunswick County Detention Center, where he remains under no bond.

  • Sheriff’s detectives searching for missing Supply man

    Detectives with the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office are searching for a man missing from Supply.

    Tracy Paul Whalen, 49, was reported missing Sunday, May 30, and has been missing for about a week, Sgt. April Stanley, sheriff’s office spokesperson, said.

    Stanley said it was unusual for Whalen to be away from his home for such a long time. No foul play is suspected in the case.

    Whalen is a white male. He is 5-feet-6-inches tall and weighs 205 pounds. He has blue eyes and blond hair, and has a tattoo of a wolf on his left arm.

  • Sheriff’s detectives search for vehicle pursuit suspect

    SHALLOTTE—Detectives with the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office are searching for as suspect who remains at large after a vehicular pursuit last week.

    Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Sgt. April Stanley said sheriff’s detectives are searching for Randy Lane Magaraci Jr., 21, of Pilot Mountain.

    Around 2 p.m. Friday, May 21, Magaraci was involved in a vehicular pursuit in Shallotte before he leaped from his vehicle and fled on foot.

  • Jury selection for Oak Island murder trial under way

    BOLIVIA—Jury selection for the first-degree murder trial of Joshua Caudill began Tuesday afternoon.

    District attorney Rex Gore said Tuesday jury selection was under way and opening arguments are expected to begin Wednesday.

    Caudill, 21, is on trial for the 2007 murder of Phillip Cook.

  • Judge grants injunction orders on establishments raided in prostitution stings

    BOLIVIA—Superior Court Judge Thomas Lock has issued injunction orders on two establishments raided in prostitution stings in April.

    On May 17, Lock granted the county a preliminary injunction for Sun Day Spa on Longwood Road and a consent permanent injunction order on Playmates Exotic Dancing on U.S. 17 near Carolina Shores.

    On April 1, agents with the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office Drug Enforcement Unit raided Sun Day Spa and Playmates Exotic Dancing. Two women were arrested at Sun Day Spa, and three women were arrested at Playmates.

  • Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office drug enforcement roundup

    Agents with the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office charged the following suspects last week, which are taken from a sheriff’s office press release:

    •James Michael Haag, 25, of 472 Retha Drive, Shallotte; charged with three counts of possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana, three counts of felony possession of marijuana, two counts of maintaining a dwelling to keep a controlled substance, three counts of sell/deliver marijuana and three counts of possession of drug paraphernalia.

  • Holden Beach police report

    Holden Beach police investigated the following incidents and charged the following suspects, which are taken from police incident reports, citations and arrest reports.

    •Credit card/ATM fraud on Brunswick Avenue West on May 14.

    •Simple assault at the Paradise Café on May 16.

    •Credit card fraud on Holden Beach Road in Supply on May 21.

    •Roxanne Marie Moore, 21, of 831 Summit Ave., Reidsville, was cited for possessing an open container of alcohol in a passenger area of a motor vehicle.

  • Brunswick County Sheriff's Office K-9 Enforcement Team roundup

    The K-9 enforcement team answers calls, conducts driver’s license checkpoints and assists with other agencies when K-9s are needed.

    From May 17-23, K-9 deputies answered 16 calls, wrote three citations and made four drug arrests. The following suspects were charged, which are taken directly from citations and arrest reports:

    •Crystal Dawn Meuse, 28, of 403 Green Bay Road, Ocean Isle Beach; charged with possession of a schedule III controlled substance, possession of a schedule IV controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
