  • Leland Crime report

    Leland police officers investigated the following incidents and made the following arrests last week. All information is taken directly from patrol activity reports.

    •Larceny on Garden Club Way; suspect damaged shrubs in victim’s front yard.

    •Roman Taylor Patrick, 21, of 6363 South Elwell Ferry Road, Council; charged with driving while impaired on Village Road. The owner of the vehicle Patrick was driving, Brenda Autum Nance, 20, of 543 North Green Swamp, Bolton, was charged with aid and abet driving while impaired.

  • Sunset Beach crime report

    Sunset Beach police responded to the following incidents:

    •Titan Owen Hudson Jr. of Chatham, Va., was arrested and charged June 23 for not having a commercial driver’s license.

    •Police on June 22 recovered a license plate reported stolen May 27. Charges are pending.

    •Police investigated a breaking and entering reported June 21 on East Main Street.

    •Kevin Charles O’Connell, 19, of Cary; arrested for being less than 19 years old and possessing a malt beverage.

    •Kevin James Pelttam, 19, of Cary; arrested for being less than 19 years old and possessing a malt beverage.

    •Mouad Zoubairi, 19, of Cary; arrested for being less than 19 years old and possessing a malt beverage.

  • Ten detention officers earn certification

    BOLIVIA—Ten of the students who graduated last Friday weren’t from area high schools, but the recent graduates still had reason to celebrate.

    Brunswick County Detention officers graduated from the Detention Officer Certification Course—the first ever in house at the sheriff’s office—with flying colors.

  • Drug agents shut down marijuana distributor

    Agents with the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office Drug Enforcement Unit ended a yearlong investigation with one arrest, shutting down a major marijuana distribution point in Leland.

    Drug agents arrested Christopher Lee Hubbard, 22, of 8935 King Road, Leland, and charged Hubbard with possession with intent to manufacture, sell and deliver marijuana, manufacture marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

    After searching the King Road home last week, agents seized 1 pounds of marijuana, four marijuana plants, several guns and more than $30,000 in cash.

  • Shallotte crime report

    Shallotte police made the following arrests and investigated the following incidents last week.

    •Police arrested Billy Ray Thomas, 50, of Edge Water Drive, Shallotte, on charge of failure to appear. He was placed in the Brunswick County Detention Center on a $500 secured bond.

    •Counterfeit money at the Scotchman’s on Main Street; suspect gave the clerk a counterfeit $100 bill.

    •Larceny of cash at Wal-Mart; victim left money, which was then allegedly taken by an employee.

  • Calabash man sentenced to 25 years for armed robbery

    NEW BERN—A Calabash man has been sentenced to 25 years in federal prison for the armed robbery of several Advance Auto Parts stores in coastal North Carolina and South Carolina.

    U.S. District Judge Louise W. Flanagan sentenced 51-year-old Thomas Lauren Pfoff to 300 months, or 25 years, in prison for his role in the robberies.

    According to a press release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Pfoff was convicted of robbing Advanced Auto Parts stores in Shallotte, Wilmington, Conway, S.C., Garden City, S.C., Georgetown, S.C., and Myrtle Beach, S.C.

    Brunswick County Sheriff’s deputies investigated the following incidents last week, which are taken directly from sheriff’s office incident reports:

    •Fraud on River Road in Calabash; suspect gave counterfeit money to a restaurant.

    •Property damage on Dogwood Road in Leland; suspect damaged the underpinning of victim’s home.

    •Larceny on Martingale Court NE in Leland; suspect stole pump from victim’s yard.

  • OCEAN ISLE BEACH CRIME REPORT

    Ocean Isle Beach police officers investigated the following incidents and made the following arrests last week. All information is taken directly from patrol activity reports.

    • Justin Kyle Loeser, 32 of Sunset Beach; arrested for misdemeanor assault inflicting serious injury, possession of or less ounces of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. According to the police report, the suspect was arrested after engaging in a physical altercation at Victoria’s Restaurant & Bar, and drugs were found as a result of a search of the suspect.
