  • Operation Safe Easter nets 11 DWI charges, 74 total charges

    On April 2, the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office Aggressive Criminal Enforcement (ACE) Team conducted a checkpoint station on U.S. 74 westbound at the Brunswick River Bridge, just east of the Leland city limits.

    The sheriff’s office was assisted in the checkpoint by officers with the Leland Police Department, Navassa Police Department, Holden Beach Police Department, New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office, Wilmington Police Department, Whiteville Police Department, Lake Waccamaw Police Department and the North Carolina Tests for Alcohol BAT Mobile Unit.

  • Brunswick County Sheriff's Office crime report

    Brunswick County Sheriff’s deputies investigated the following incidents last week, which are taken directly from sheriff’s office incident reports:

    •Property damage on Benton Road SE in Bolivia; suspect broke window in victim’s track hoe.

    •Simple assault on Sunset Dock SW in Ocean Isle Beach; suspect hit victim in the face, causing multiple bruises.

    •Property damage in Old Town; suspect set victim’s wheelbarrow on fire.

  • Two men arrested for robbing cab driver

    Two men have been arrested after they called a cab driver to pick them up and then allegedly robbed him.

    According to Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office Capt. Gene Caison, a Wilmington-based cab driver received a call to pick up two men on River Road in Winnabow Sunday evening.

    When the cab driver arrived, he reported they demanded his money, “or they were going to kill him,” the incident report states.

  • Shallotte crime report

    Shallotte police charged the following people and investigated following incidents last week. All information is taken directly from police reports.

    •Police charged William Casey Faircloth, 20, of 118 Lion’s Paw Drive, Holden Beach, with assault on a female. He was taken to the Brunswick County Detention Center under no bond.

  • Ocean Isle Beach Crime Report

    The Ocean Isle Beach Police Department investigated the following incidents last week.

    •Brian Moody, 27, of Hope Mills; charged with driving while impaired and left of center.

    •Chase Maree, 25, of Ocean Isle Beach; charged with driving while impaired.

    •Mary Blackman, 41, of Calabash; charged with driving while impaired.

    •Property damage and larceny on Dare Street.

    •Breaking and entering, property damage and larceny on East Second Street.

    •Larceny on Wilmington Street.

  • Shallotte crime report

    Shallotte police charged the following people and investigated following incidents last week. All information is taken directly from police reports.

    •Police charged Christopher Council Scott, 27, of 2653 Free Bird Lane, Ash, with communicating threats in the Scotchman parking lot, where he threatened a victim with a brick. The incident occurred after a previous assault with a deadly weapon report from the same victim in which he accused Scott of threatening him with a knife. Scott was taken to the Brunswick County Detention Center under a $500 secured bond.

  • Brunswick County Sheriff's Office crime report

    Brunswick County Sheriff’s deputies investigated the following incidents last week, which are taken directly from sheriff’s office incident reports:

    •Lost/stolen tags on Ocean Highway West in Calabash; tag fell off victim’s vehicle while driving.

    •Unauthorized use of a motor vehicle on Vereen Road in Ash; suspect took victim’s vehicle without permission.

    •Breaking and entering on Seashell Drive in Supply; suspect entered victim’s residence through the front door.

  • Missing person found

    Shallotte police helped locate a missing person from New Hanover County Thursday afternoon on White Street near Coastal Cinemas.

    Police found Robert Jutres, 39, and EMS transported him to a medical facility, according to a Shallotte Police Department spokesperson. Several police cars were parked along White Street around 3 p.m.

  • Break-in suspect sought

    Brunswick County Sheriff’s deputies are searching for a suspect they believe broke into several Hickmans Crossroads area homes last week.

    Lt. Sam Davis said the suspect is a tall, slender-to-medium build, white male. He is described as being in his late-20s or early-30s.

    The suspect has a tattoo of a sword or dagger on his inner left arm. He is driving a burgundy Mazda.

    Davis reminds residents to lock their doors, activate alarm systems and be aware of their property and their neighbors’ property.
