  • Leland councilman charged with domestic violence

    A Leland councilman has been arrested and charged with domestic violence.

    According to Leland Police Chief Timothy Jayne, Herbert Barnes, a Leland councilman, was arrested Saturday, March 19, and charged with assault on a female and domestic violence.

    Jayne said police officers were dispatched to a 911 call for service involving a report of domestic violence last Saturday. After officers spoke with the victim and gathered evidence concerning the alleged assault, police located and arrested Barnes, who was taken to the Brunswick County Detention Center.

  • Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office drug report

    Agents with the Brunswick County Vice Narcotics Unit arrested a Tabor City man in Shallotte on several drug charges last week.

    During the arrest, agents seized 90 Percocet tablets.

  • Detectives search for two armed robbery suspects

    Detectives with the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office are searching for two male suspects who were involved in an armed robbery in the Calabash area early Tuesday morning.

    Around 5:15 a.m. March 15, two suspects entered Calabash Internet Café, at 1224 River View Drive, Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer April Stanley said.

    The suspects concealed their identities with masks, and forced employees to hand over an undetermined amount of money before fleeing the business.

  • Brunswick County Sheriff's Office crime report

    Brunswick County Sheriff’s deputies investigated the following incidents last week, which are taken directly from sheriff’s office incident reports:

    •Lost wallet at the Citgo in Calabash; victim said he misplaced his wallet.

    •Breaking and entering and property damage on Little Macedonia Road in Supply; suspect entered victim’s residence and damaged screen and doorjamb.

    •Breaking and entering, larceny and property damage on Winter Street in Supply; suspect pried open victim’s side door and stole TV.

  • Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office ACE Roundup

    The Aggressive Criminal Enforcement (ACE) Team is a support unit, whose primary functions are traffic enforcement and assisting in the apprehension of drug traffickers in the county. The ACE team conducts driving while impaired and driver’s license checkpoints, as well as street-level investigations on controlled substances.
    The ACE team works with the sheriff’s office K-9 Enforcement Team and Drug Enforcement Unit to apprehend narcotics suspects as well as saturating hot spots where criminal activity is reported.

  • Severe weather training available next week at Brunswick County Emergency Services

    BOLIVIA—The National Weather Service (NWS) has teamed up with Brunswick County Emergency Services to bring SKYWARN and Community Collaborative Rain, Hail and Snow Network (CoCoRaHS) training to Brunswick County.

  • Jewelry reported stolen in Sunset Beach

    SUNSET BEACH—Sunset Beach police handled the following incidents, both reported March 16.

    •Jewelry was reported stolen following a breaking and entering by an unknown person at a residence on Great Egret Circle.

    •During a routine traffic stop, Brandon James Spohn, 22, of Little River, S.C., was arrested after an officer called in information and learned Spohn was wanted in another jurisdiction. Spohn was taken to Brunswick County Detention Center on a $10,000 bond.

  • Supply man wanted for multiple drug charges

    Agents with the Brunswick County Vice Narcotics Unit are searching for a Supply man wanted for drug charges after a search warrant was executed last week.

    According to Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Sgt. April Stanley, drug agents executed a search warrant at the home of Matthew Ryan Beach, at 1717 Deerwood Trail, Supply.

    Beach, 29, has been charged with maintaining a vehicle/dwelling/place to keep a controlled substance, sell/deliver marijuana, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

  • Shallotte Crime Report

    The Shallotte Police Department investigated the following incidents and made the following arrests last week. All information is taken directly from police incident and arrest reports.

    •Jonathan Lee Bice, 23, of 144 Dot Road, Thomasville, was arrested for shoplifting from Walmart.

    •Crystal Kaye McNeill, 23, of 5321 Ridge Drive, Trinity, was arrested for shoplifting from Walmart.

    •Communication of threats in the Cardinal Pointe parking lot; victim received death threats via telephone from suspect who used to live with victim.

  • Ocean Isle Beach Crime Report

    The Ocean Isle Beach Police Department investigated the following incidents last week. All information is taken directly from police incident reports.

    •Byron Scott Johnson, 45, of Shallotte; charged with simple possession of less than one-half ounce of marijuana.

    •Joseph Harry Beavers, 26, of Supply; charged with no insurance on vehicle, revoked registration plate and open container of alcohol.

    •Karen Lynn O’Driscoll, 30, of Ocean Isle Beach; charged with open container of alcohol. She was a passenger in the vehicle.
