A 19-year old Supply man has been found guilty of the 2006 murder of his cousin. He now faces life in prison.

Superior Court Judge Thomas Lock sentenced Gregory Demontrey Simmons to life in prison after a jury found Simmons guilty of first-degree murder.

In May 2006, Simmons was charged with the first-degree murder of his cousin, 23-year-old Alfred Louis Scott, also of Supply.

According to assistant district attorney Brooke Leland, Scott was shot four times with a .357 Smith and Wesson revolver. Scott was pronounced dead in his backyard.

Holden Beach police officers investigated the following incidents and made the following arrests last week.

•Burglary, larceny and vandalism on Shell Drive; suspect stole TV/VCR/stereo equipment.

•Larceny from a motor vehicle and burglary on Ocean Boulevard West; suspect stole a GPS, a GPS mount and a telephone headset.

Leland police officers investigated the following incidents and made the following arrests last week. All information is taken directly from patrol activity reports.

•Breaking and entering on Village Road; suspect broke into a storage shed and stole three lamps and drop cords. There were no signs of forced entry. The padlock was missing from the door.

•Larceny on New Point Boulevard; suspects Dana Sherell McKiver, 23, of 606 Emory St., Wilmington, and Airel Carter, 16, of 483 Pheasant Court, Wilmington were cited and released.

Shallotte police made the following arrests and investigated the following incidents last week:

•Police arrested Carrie R. Zercher, 32, of Shallotte, for driving while impaired, driving while license revoked and driving left of center. According to the arrest report, the responding officer saw Zercher’s vehicle driving south on Main Street weaving over the centerline. The officer pulled her over and determined the driver was intoxicated. Her driver’s license was also suspended.
