  • Thefts reported in Sunset Beach

    Sunset Beach police investigated the following incidents reported in the past week:

    •On March 7, a resident of Old Oak Lane reported a bank check had been uttered and forged. The woman said a man had come to her home to give her a price for fixing a hot tub. She wrote him a check for $129 for parts. When the check was cashed at First Federal in South Carolina, the amount of the check had been changed to $429.

    •A Garmin GPS was reported stolen March 3 from an unlocked vehicle on Medcalf Drive.

  • Break-ins, thefts reported in Sunset Beach

    SUNSET BEACH—Police investigated two separate break-ins and thefts reported Feb. 25.

    •Sometime overnight, glass was broken out of a car on Medcalf Drive. Cash in the amount of $101 in a red billfold was stolen.

    •Breaking and entering and larceny were reported at two condominiums at the end of Park Road. Taken were an Xbox with connector and controller and a Toshiba laptop computer.

  • Shallotte Crime Report

    Shallotte Crime

    The Shallotte Police Department investigated the following incidents and made the following arrests last week. All information is taken directly from police incident and arrest reports.

    •Anthony Maurice Riggins, 32, of 686 Sunset Lakes Blvd., Sunset Beach, was arrested in the DMV parking lot for assault on a female. He was held at the Brunswick County Detention Center on a $1,000 bond.

  • Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office ACE Roundup

    The Aggressive Criminal Enforcement (ACE) Team is a support unit, whose primary functions are traffic enforcement and assisting in the apprehension of drug traffickers in the county. The ACE team conducts driving while impaired and driver’s license checkpoints, as well as street-level investigations on controlled substances.
    The ACE team works with the sheriff’s office K-9 Enforcement Team and Drug Enforcement Unit to apprehend narcotics suspects as well as saturating hot spots where criminal activity is reported.

  • Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office crime report

    Brunswick County Sheriff’s deputies investigated the following incidents last week, which are taken directly from sheriff’s office incident reports:

    •Breaking and entering and larceny on Holiday Street in Supply; suspect cut and removed victim’s copper pipe.

    •Property damage and breaking and entering on Boones Neck Road in Supply; suspect pried open victim’s home and damaged a metal door.

  • Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office K-9 roundup

    The K-9 enforcement team answers calls, conducts driver’s license checkpoints and assists with other agencies when K-9s are needed.

    From Feb. 21-17, K-9 deputies issued 17 citations and made 14 drug arrests.

    K-9 deputies set up checkpoints at Hickmans Crossroads, Sellers Road, Green Swamp road, Village Point Road, Shell Point Road, Old Ocean Highway and Kirby Road.

  • Shallotte Crime Report

    The Shallotte Police Department investigated the following incidents and made the following arrests last week. All information is taken directly from police incident and arrest reports.

    •Jesse Lamar Hill, 26, of 7300 River Road Lot 32, Southport, was arrested for felony vandalism, misdemeanor vandalism and assault on a female after police were called to a domestic situation at Highlands Glen. The subject had two outstanding warrants. Hill was taken to the Brunswick County Detention Center and placed on a $1,500 bond.

  • Ocean Isle Beach Crime Report

    The Ocean Isle Beach Police Department investigated the following incidents during the past two weeks. All information is taken directly from police incident reports.

    •Breaking and entering and property damage on East Second Street.

    •Breaking and entering and larceny on East Second Street; subject entered house and took two flat-screen TVs.

    •Antwan Mikel Mitchell, 29, of Shallotte; charged with simple possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

  • Case of identity theft in Sunset Beach

    Police are investigating a case of identity theft reported Feb. 18.

    A local man reported someone had obtained his bank information and tried to obtain a debit card for his spouse in the Philippines. After the resident got a call requesting information for a debit card, the bank froze his account due to suspicious activity.

  • Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office drug report

    After a four-month investigation, agents with the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office Vice Narcotics Unit arrested a Supply man on multiple drug violations.

    On Feb. 16, agents arrested Johnnie Delmore Smith Jr., 48, of 2423 Vacation St., Supply. He was charged with four counts of trafficking a schedule II controlled substance, two counts of possession with intent to sell and deliver a schedule II controlled substance, one count of sale and delivery of a schedule II controlled substance and one count of possession of drug paraphernalia.
