Police on Saturday arrested a man for assaulting his brother.

Jose Basilio Arrazate Calderon, 33, of 38th Street, was arrested March 22 after his brother was hit over the head with the base of a cordless telephone and sustained an injury, Sunset Beach Deputy Chief Steve Smith said.

Calderon was charged with simple assault and carrying a concealed weapon, a 100,000-volt stun gun.

Agents with the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office Drug Enforcement Unit made the following arrests last week. The suspects and their charges, which are taken directly from arrest reports, are:

•Trevor Robert Hamilton, 18, of 383 Dianna Ave. in Thomasville; charged with possession of ounces or less of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

•Craig Anthony Gurganious, 18, 180 Canterbury Lane in Lexington; charged with possession of ounces or less of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Holden Beach Police officers investigated the following incidents and made the following arrests last week:

•Breaking and entering on Ocean Boulevard West on March 20. Nothing was reported stolen from the residence.

•Larceny on Rothschild Street on March 21. Several power tools were reported stolen from a construction site. Police have charged Christopher Whittington, 35, of Franklinville, with two counts of breaking and entering and two counts of larceny.

RALEIGH—A Brunswick County man and former Calabash firefighter has recently been sentenced to more than 19 years in federal prison for transmitting child pornography over the Internet.

U.S. District Judge W. Earl Britt sentenced Collier Douglas Sessoms, 32, of 1074 Captain Court, Calabash, to 235 months in prison and a $5,000 fine for transporting child pornography and obscene materials over the Internet.

Sessoms pleaded guilty to federal charges in December 2006, according to a U.S. Attorney’s office press release.
