    Brunswick County Sheriff’s deputies investigated the following incidents last week.

    June 18

    Vandalism and larceny of auto parts and accessories from Barnhill Contracting Company on a motor vehicle on Andrew Jackson Highway, Leland.

    Burglary without forced entry on McMilly Road, Shallotte.

    Burglary and larceny of auto parts and accessories from S.T. Wooten on Andrew Jackson Highway, Leland.

    Breaking and entering a motor vehicle on McMilly Road, Shallotte.

  • Brunswick County man sentenced to prison for crack distribution

    United States Attorney Thomas G. Walker announced that in federal court on June 21, Chief United States District Judge James C. Dever III sentenced Kevin Brown, 33, of Brunswick County to 92 months imprisonment followed by four years supervised release.

    On Jan. 22, Brown pleaded guilty to conspiring to possess with intent to distribute and distributing more than 28 grams of cocaine base (crack).

  • Sheriff’s Corner: Exercise safety in the water with these tips

    Summer is here, and many citizens are already enjoying spending time in the water. Sadly, we have already lost several individuals in our area to drowning accidents. I would like to offer some tips for water safety for both swimming pools and the beach.

    For the swimming pool:

    •If no lifeguard is on duty, make sure children are accompanied by an adult who is familiar with CPR and life-saving techniques.

    •For your home pool, post CPR instructions and 911 reminders on signage around your pool

  • Sunset Beach police report

    Sunset Beach police investigated the following incidents.

    Larceny of four sets of golf clubs at Sandpiper Bay Golf Course, reported Monday, June 17. A perpetrator has been identified.

    Breaking-and-entering of motor vehicle, larceny of pocketbook and injury to personal property (broken window) at the gazebo parking lot on June 13.

    Larceny of weed eater and ladder on 37th Street, reported June 11.

    Breaking-and-entering and larceny reported June 11 on Dogwood Drive.

    During the month of May, the Calabash Fire Department responded to 122 calls: five structure fires, one woods/brush fire, seven fire alarms, 11 motor vehicle accidents, six other, and 92 EMS first-response calls.
