  • Sunset Beach police investigate missing wallet

    SUNSET BEACH — The Sunset Beach Police Department is investigating a reported loss of a wallet.

    A wallet was reported lost July 23 from a vacation rental on Canal Drive, where the wallet’s owner had been staying.

  • Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office Crime Report

    On Wednesday, July 17, a report was filed indicating an 87-year-old man vandalized the Hewett Family Cemetery, causing $25,000 in damage. A resident collected information about the development of the cemetery, which now shares property with mobile homes, over the last several years and turned it over to Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office detectives for investigation.

    In addition, deputies investigated the following incidents last week:

    Larceny of Brazilian currency and an iPod Touch from a vehicle on Deer Drive, Supply.

  • Sheriff's Corner: Don't leave pets or children in hot cars

    We are now in the hottest days of summer and I would like to remind the community to never leave children or pets in a hot vehicle.  Temperatures inside a parked car, on a 90-degree day, can quickly reach over 130 degrees. This can lead to dangerous consequences for a child or pet if left inside a vehicle including heat stroke and death.

    July 15

    Breaking-and-entering, non-forced entry and larceny of items from a motor vehicle parked on Marlin Drive.

    Breaking-and-entering, forcible entry and larceny of items from buildings on Gerda Avenue.

    July 16

    Larceny of rental equipment on Ocean Boulevard West.

    A two-vehicle traffic crash on Fairview Road resulted in property damage only.

    Walmart loss prevention reported stolen merchandise.

    July 18

    A two-vehicle traffic crash on U.S. 17 resulted in property damage only.

  • Shallotte Police crime report

    The Shallotte Police Department investigated the following incidents and made the following arrests last two weeks. All information is taken directly from police incident and arrest reports.

     

    July 15

    Embezzlement; an employee stole keys to a building and took $500 from the ice machine on Main Street.

    July 16

    Charles Alden Corbett, 22, 3596 Lake Shore Drive, arrested on charges of driving while impaired and resisting arrest.

  • Sunset Beach crime report

    The Sunset Beach Police Department investigated the following incidents and made the following arrests.

    Larceny of bicycle, reported July 16 on 27th Street.

    Worthless check/ obtaining property by false pretense. Crime occurred on a work site at North Shore Drive East.

    Anna Marie Canady, 25, of 2712 Royal Poste Road, Sunset Beach, was charged July 18 with possession of a schedule IV controlled substance/failure to appear.

  • Sunset Beach crime report

    SUNSET BEACH — A husband and wife have been arrested in connection with a domestic dispute.

    On Sunday, July 7, Sunset Beach police charged Beth Ann Wooddell, 43, with simple assault.

    Police also charged Michael Joseph Wooddell, 44, with assault on a female.

    Both are residents of 908 Resort Circle, Unit 912, in Sunset Beach.

    Sunset Beach Police Detective Joe Smith said officers responded after both complained they had been assaulted. Each had signs of assault, so both were arrested, Smith said.

    June 28

    Stephanie Deanna Webster, 47, 2059 Longwood Road, Longwood, arrested on charges of failure to appear in court for speeding and driving while license revoked.

    Michael Britt Speight, 26, 57 8th Street, Bolton, arrested on charges of breaking and entering, larceny and obtaining property by false pretenses.
