  • Shallotte Police report

    The Shallotte Police Department investigated the following incidents and made the following arrests last week. All information is taken directly from police incident and arrest reports.

    William Lamont Edward Daniels, 4608 Noble Court, Shallotte, possession of a half ounce or less of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

    Kasey Gerald Whaley, 1315 Jack and Johnny Road, Shallotte, failure to appear.

    Nicholas Augustine Benoy, 2896 Harris Street, Holden beach, possession of cocaine, possession of drug paraphernalia and resisting arrest.

  • Narcotics agents seize more than 7 pounds of marijuana

    Brunswick County Vice Narcotics agents have seized more than 7 pounds of marijuana and almost $9,000 from a Leland home.

    On Dec. 27 agents executed a search warrant at 106 Baldwin Drive in Leland. The warrant followed a three-month investigation, which was prompted by “numerous” tips to the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office’s Submit a Tip Hotline.

    Agents arrested Lamar Jerome Morris, 23. They seized 7.5 pounds of marijuana, $8,889 in cash, two pistols and one 30-round Glock magazine.

    The Leland Police Department investigated the following incidents and made the following arrests in the last two weeks. All information is taken directly from police incident and arrest reports.

     

    Dec. 13

    Kristopher Sharon Williams, 19, 1230 Mapletree Dr., Apt. 308, arrested on one count of felony larceny.

     

    Dec. 14

    Larceny; an unknown suspect took $500 worth of building materials from a construction site on North Palm Drive, Winnabow.

     

  • Holden Beach police report

    The Holden Beach Police Department investigated the following incidents and made the following arrests in the last two weeks. All information is taken directly from police incident and arrest reports.

     

    Dec. 16

    Breaking and entering, forcible entry and vandalism; suspect entered a house on Lions Paw Drive and caused $500 worth of damage.

    Breaking and entering, forcible entry and vandalism; suspect entered a house on Ocean Boulevard West and caused $300 worth of damage.

  • Sunset Beach police investigate attempted break-in, make arrests

    Sunset Beach police are investigating an attempted breaking-and-or-entering and injury to real property.
    The incident was reported Dec. 23 on East Main Street.
    Police also made two New Year’s Day arrests.
    Michael Allen Joye, 33, 14201 Hamlet Highway, Gibson, was charged with DWI.
    Ashley Danabay Smith, 26, 1027 Park Road, Sunset Beach, was arrested on charges of resisting a public officer, failure to appear and a child-support pickup order.

  • Police offer property list to help track stolen items

    The best defense against breaking and entering is a locked door.

    But with larcenies from locked and unlocked homes continually reported, the Holden Beach Police Department has a backup plan.

    The department will provide residents with a property registration form to list any items a thief might target.

    It’s a proactive measure to improve chances of recovering stolen items.

    The department started providing property registration forms about 18 months ago, Sgt. Frank Dilworth said.

  • Four horses seized from unfit conditions

    Four horses have been seized from a Brunswick County residence after they were found in deplorable conditions.

    Rosemary Gettie Waldrone and Edward Dean Oxendine, both of 6890 Sandy Run Drive NE, Leland, were arrested on Monday, Dec. 17, and each charged with four counts of misdemeanor cruelty to animals.

    Brunswick County Sheriff’s Animal Protective Services seized the horses and had them examined by a veterinarian before pressing charges.

    Brunswick County Sheriff’s deputies investigated the following incidents last week:

     

    Dec. 17

    Larceny of an air conditioner condenser unit on Seany Drive, Leland.

    Fraud at an automated teller machine on Howe Street, Southport.

    Burglary of a Playstation with forcible entry on Fayetteville Avenue, Calabash.

    Vandalism on Middle Dam Road, Shallotte.

    Vandalism, breaking and entering into a coin-operated machine and larceny on Long Beach Road, Southport.

  • Heroin, marijuana, cash seized by deputies

    Just days before Christmas two men were arrested in Brunswick County for having the wrong kind of bags in their car.

    One hundred and twenty-seven bags of heroin, 20 bags of marijuana and $1,326 cash were confiscated during a vehicle stop. The two men were arrested on Friday, Dec. 21, after deputies with the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office Vice Narcotics Unit investigated and searched their vehicle.

    Hakeem Vereen and Alex Hamilton were both arrested.

  • Selling drugs to drug agent lands two in jail

    Two Greenville residents spent their Christmas holiday in custody at the Brunswick County Detention Center after being arrested for trafficking in opium.

    On Thursday, Dec. 20, Derry Mandle Morris and Regina Loraine Jones were arrested after selling narcotics to a drug agent. Four warrants were issued each for Morris and Jones.

    They were arrested after selling Oxymorphone, a prescription painkiller and a schedule II controlled substance, to a law enforcement agent.
