  • Sheriff's Corner: Community service doesn’t have to be formal

April is widely recognized as Community Service month. Being a native of Brunswick County, I have a deep love for this community—it’s one of the reasons I chose to go into law enforcement—to give back to the community that has been so good to me and my family for such a long time.

I would like to encourage the citizens of this great county to consider getting involved in some form of community service. There are multiple organizations throughout our area with various opportunities to serve on many different levels.

  • Fire department feeling squeezed

CIVIETOWN—When money owed isn’t paid, how does a fire department continue to run emergency calls?

That is the tough question faced by many area fire departments including Civietown Volunteer Fire Department.

Federal and state regulations mandate required equipment, testing procedures and more that must be in place for a department to be operational and to receive a Department of Insurance rating—a rating that directly affects homeowners’ pocketbooks.
