  • OCEAN ISLE BEACH CRIME REPORT

    Ocean Isle Beach police officers made the following arrest last week. All information is taken directly from patrol activity reports.

    •Wesley Gray Trotter, 21, of Charlotte, for resist, obstruct and delay. According to the police report, the suspect ran when he was told to stop.

  • New county detention center completed, slated to open soon

    BOLIVIA—The newest extended stay facility in Brunswick County is ready to open.

    But it’s no hotel.

    The second phase of the Brunswick County Detention Center has been completed and is ready to house inmates.

    Capt. Kevin Holden, Brunswick County Detention Center chief jailer, said the 244-bed expansion project came in ahead of schedule and under budget.

    With additional beds, the two phases of the detention center can house 440 inmates, he said.

  • Crime report

    Brunswick County Sheriff’s deputies investigated the following incidents and made the following arrests last week. All information is taken directly from sheriff’s office incident and arrest reports.

    •Geary Lynn Hill, 27, of 7400 Ocean Highway, Sunset Beach; charged with possession of a firearm by a felon, driving while impaired, exceeding posted speed, driving while license revoked and driving left of center.

    Shallotte police made the following arrests and investigated the following incidents last week.

  • HOLDEN BEACH POLICE REPORT

    Holden Beach police officers investigated the following incidents and made the following arrests last week. All information is taken directly from incident and arrest reports.

    •Christopher Michael Long, 33, of 1051 Stone Chimney Road, Supply; charged with driving while impaired, no insurance and reckless driving.

    •Larceny on Ocean Boulevard West; suspect stole victim’s bike.

    •Larceny on Ocean Boulevard West; suspect stole three skimboards.

    •Burglary on Brunswick Avenue West; suspect damaged victim’s door casing.

  • Drug agents seize cocaine, money in search warrant

    Agents with the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office Drug Enforcement Unit arrested four suspects after executing a search warrant last Thursday.

    Agents seized 14 grams of cocaine and $1,904 from a home on Sunnybrook Way in Leland after a month-long investigation.

    The following individuals were charged:

  • Larcenies, credit card fraud in Sunset Beach

    SUNSET BEACH—Police investigated a jewelry theft reported May 23.

    A diamond ring with five birthstones and a blue topaz ring were reported stolen from a home on Egret Drive.

    Credit card fraud was reported May 27. The victim said someone used his credit card without permission in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

    Other reported incidents included:

    •A license plate was reported stolen May 27 from a vehicle in a parking lot at 1601 Seaside Road.

    •10-mg hydrocodone tablets were reported stolen May 21 from Walgreens.

  • Shallotte crime report

    Shallotte Police made the following arrests and investigated the following incidents last week:

    •Police arrested Michael Andres Gonzales, 39, of Hillcrest Drive, Supply, and charged him with felony breaking and entering and felony larceny of money at Sharky’s on Ocean Isle Beach. He was taken to the Brunswick County Detention Center and placed on a $10,000 secured bond.

    •Fraud at Lowe’s Foods; suspects “confused the cashier” into giving them an additional $300, the report states.

  • Suspect arrested in OIB break-ins

    The man suspected of causing a string of break-ins on Ocean Isle Beach has been arrested. He was jailed on a $121,000 bond on May 19.

    Detective Donna Simpson said Jackie Lee Miles Jr. III, 32, of Atkinson, broke into about a half a dozen homes, where he stole televisions, a stereo and speakers and DVD players.

    Simpson said officers realized the break-ins were all similar in entry, which brought focus to a single suspect.

  • Crime report

    Brunswick County Sheriff’s deputies investigated the following incidents and made the following arrests last week. All information is taken directly from sheriff’s office incident and arrest reports.

    •Larceny on Hooper Road in Leland; suspect stole a motorcycle from victim’s residence.

    •Larceny on Hillcrest Road in Supply; suspect took property from victim’s yard and from under the house. Fence posts and a computer monitor were reported stolen.
