  • Special Operations Report

    The special operations team at the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office includes the K-9 enforcement team and Aggressive Criminal Enforcement (ACE) Team.

    The ACE Team is a support unit whose primary functions are traffic enforcement and assisting in the apprehension of drug traffickers in the county.

    From Dec. 17-23 special operations deputies set up checkpoints on

    N.C. 211, Chapel Loop Road, Oxpen Road, Red Bug Road, Hickman Road and Danford Road.

  • Sheriff’s Corner: New Year safety reminder

    By the time everyone sees this message, Christmas will be over and New Years will be just a few days away.

    Please keep in mind a lot of people will be traveling all over going to events and parties to celebrate the evening.

    The most important thing that is always a concern is, “Don’t drink and drive.” If you are at a party or a function and are drinking, get someone to take you home. Better yet, have a designated driver already pre-arranged.

    The Shallotte Police Department investigated the following incidents and made the following arrests last week. All information is taken directly from police incident and arrest reports.

     

    Dec. 13

    Shoplifting at Walmart; suspect stacked dog food and diapers in a cart and left the store.

    Property damage in the Bojangles parking lot by opening a car door and hitting another vehicle.

    Larceny at Walmart; suspect took a TV from the store before fleeing on foot.

  • Shallotte Crime Report

     

    The Shallotte Police Department investigated the following incidents and made the following arrests last week. All information is taken directly from police incident and arrest reports.

    Christopher Lynn Charles, 23, 5126 Matt Hair Road, Fayetteville, was charged with felony obtaining property by false pretense.

    Obtaining property by false pretense at Pawn USA; suspect pawned stolen items.

    Larceny of a tire and rim on Country Club Villa Drive; suspect removed a wheel from a victim’s vehicle.

    Brunswick County Sheriff’s deputies investigated the following incidents last week:

    Dec. 10

    Recovered property, a Ford Ranger, on Town Creek Road, Leland.

     

    Dec. 13

    Burglary with forcible entry and larceny on Exum Road, Ash; suspect took building materials and a flat-screen TV.

    Communicating threats on Southport-Supply Road, Southport.

  • Former Shallotte Police detective pleads guilty; girlfriend’s charges dropped

    A former Shallotte police officer has pleaded guilty to making false statements on an insurance report.

    Eric Proctor King pleaded guilty on Friday, Dec. 14, in Brunswick County Superior Court to one count of making false statements on an application for insurance during an incident that occurred Jan. 27, 2011.

    J. Ryan Smithwick represented King.

  • Leland Police report

    The Leland Police Department investigated the following incidents and made the following arrests in the last two weeks. All information is taken directly from police incident and arrest reports.

     

    Dec. 11

    Driving while impaired; suspect was driving while impaired on Lanvale Road.

    Simple assault; subject hit victim in the face and stomach on Village Road.

     

    Dec. 12

    Vandalism; subject damaged tires on a vehicle parked on Townsend Lane, causing $50 in damage.

  • Holden Beach police report

    The Holden Beach Police Department investigated the following incidents and made the following arrests in the last two weeks. All information is taken directly from police incident and arrest reports.

     

    Dec. 5

    Breaking and entering, non-forcible entry, and larceny; suspect entered a house on Ocean Boulevard West and took a flat-screen TV valued at $500.

  • Sunset Beach police investigate incidents

    The Sunset Beach Police Department is investigating the following incidents reported in the past week.

    On Dec. 16, five incidents of injury to personal property were reported at two addresses on Oyster Bay Drive and three units on Resort Circle.

    Financial transaction card fraud was reported Dec. 14 on Great Oak Circle.

    A report of breaking-and-entering and larceny at an address on East Main Street was taken on Dec. 12.
