  • Shallotte police report

    Shallotte police made the following arrests and investigated the following incidents last week.

    All information is taken directly from police reports.

    •Police arrested Phillip Warren Riley, 44, of Hall Street, Shallotte, on charges of defrauding the innkeeper after leaving Chili’s without paying for alcohol he consumed.

    •Breaking and entering and larceny of money at Bojangles; suspect took $3,100 out of the safe.

  • Drug report

    Agents with the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office Drug Enforcement Unit made the following arrests last week.

    The suspects and their charges, which are taken directly from arrest reports, are:

    •Rodney Troy Williams, 39, of 2510 Maco Road, Leland; charged with possession with intent to manufacture, sell and deliver cocaine, maintaining a dwelling to keep a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

    •Melissa Dawn Todd, 23, of 2510 Maco Road, Leland; charged with felony possession of cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia.

  • Frink murderer to be paroled

    In September 1999, John Paul Counts was sentenced to 30 years in prison for murdering an 18-year-old Shallotte woman in 1994.

    But on Friday, July 11, after serving less than nine years of his prison sentence, Counts is scheduled to be paroled.

    Counts, 40, pleaded guilty to the second-degree murder of Amy Frink, and began his sentence in the N.C. Department of Correction on Sept. 14, 1999.

    On June 23, 1994, Amy Frink was driving from her home near Shallotte to Cherry Grove, S.C., to visit her sister, but never made it there.

  • Crime report

    Brunswick County Sheriff’s deputies investigated the following incidents last week, which are taken directly from incident reports.

    •Breaking and entering and larceny on Loblolly Lane in Ocean Isle Beach; suspect entered victim’s residence and stole an antique table and chairs, a TV antenna, a water pump, two ladders, rakes, shovels, copper tubing, fence fitting and a bush trimmer.

    •Larceny on Makatoka Road in Supply; suspect removed box from victim’s home.

  • Community policing roundup

    Brunswick County Sheriff’s deputies issued the following citations and made the following arrests last weekend through its community policing program.

    The sheriff’s office community policing program targets areas within the county with high crime and drug activity through increased patrols.

    Areas targeted last week include Turkey Trap Road, Supply; the Longwood area, Sunset Harbor Road; McMilly Road, Shallotte; and Dutchman Acres near Southport.

    The suspects and their charges, which are taken directly from citations and arrest reports, are:

  • Leland Crime report

    Leland police officers investigated the following incidents and made the following arrests last week. All information is taken directly from patrol activity reports.

    •Larceny on Garden Club Way; suspect damaged shrubs in victim’s front yard.

    •Roman Taylor Patrick, 21, of 6363 South Elwell Ferry Road, Council; charged with driving while impaired on Village Road. The owner of the vehicle Patrick was driving, Brenda Autum Nance, 20, of 543 North Green Swamp, Bolton, was charged with aid and abet driving while impaired.

  • Sunset Beach crime report

    Sunset Beach police responded to the following incidents:

    •Titan Owen Hudson Jr. of Chatham, Va., was arrested and charged June 23 for not having a commercial driver’s license.

    •Police on June 22 recovered a license plate reported stolen May 27. Charges are pending.

    •Police investigated a breaking and entering reported June 21 on East Main Street.

  • Ocean Isle Beach police report

    Ocean Isle Beach police officers investigated the following incidents and made the following arrests last week. All information is taken directly from police incident and arrest reports.

    •Kevin Charles O’Connell, 19, of Cary; arrested for being less than 19 years old and possessing a malt beverage.

    •Kevin James Pelttam, 19, of Cary; arrested for being less than 19 years old and possessing a malt beverage.

    •Mouad Zoubairi, 19, of Cary; arrested for being less than 19 years old and possessing a malt beverage.

  • Drug report

    Agents with the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office Drug Enforcement Unit made the following arrests last week. The suspects and their charges, which are taken directly from sheriff’s office reports, are:

  • Ten detention officers earn certification

    BOLIVIA—Ten of the students who graduated last Friday weren’t from area high schools, but the recent graduates still had reason to celebrate.

    Brunswick County Detention officers graduated from the Detention Officer Certification Course—the first ever in house at the sheriff’s office—with flying colors.
