  • Larceny investigation turns into large drug bust at Ocean Isle Beach

    A routine larceny investigation turned into one of the larger drug busts for the Ocean Isle Beach Police Department this past weekend.

    Detective Ken Bellamy said the department received a report of larceny of jewelry and money at about 2 a.m. Saturday from Alexandria Caesar, 30, of Asheville. Caesar gave officers a description of the suspect, who was found at the Ocean Isle Inn.

  • Commissioners declare September Teen Court month in Brunswick County

    BOLIVIA—In keeping with Teen Court’s mission of “serving communities, changing lives,” Brunswick County Commissioners on Monday proclaimed September as Teen Court Month in Brunswick County.

    Local defense attorney and president of the Brunswick County Bar Association Pauline Hankins spoke to commissioners about volunteering with Teen Court.

    “I found Teen Court to be one of the most rewarding programs I have ever volunteered for,” Hankins said.

  • Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office drug report

    Agents with the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office charged the following suspects last week. All information is provided by the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office.

    •Amber Nicole Jenks, 19, of 6748 Carolina Beach Road, Lot 32, Wilmington, was charged with possession of a controlled substance on prison/jail premises, possession of one-half ounce or less of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. She was taken to the Brunswick County Detention Center and placed under a $10,000 secured bond.

  • Larceny, DWI arrest in Sunset Beach

    SUNSET BEACH—Police investigated a larceny of five rings from a house on Wyndfall Drive.

    Reported stolen Sept. 18 were a 14-karat gold wedding ring set, a 14-karat two-tone diamond band wrap, a platinum wedding band with diamonds around one side, a white-gold set with cubic zirconia ring, and a man’s Masonic ring.

    On Sept. 19, Sunset Beach police arrested Carolyn J. Neriani, 29, of 908 Resort Circle, Sunset Beach, for DWI.


  • Brunswick County Sheriff's Office crime report

    Brunswick County Sheriff’s deputies investigated the following incidents last week, which are taken directly from sheriff’s office incident reports:

    •Counterfeit currency and false pretences on Long Beach Road in Southport; suspect used a counterfeit $100 bill to purchase items.

    •Armed robbery on Old Ocean Highway in Bolivia; suspect showed a handgun and demanded money from the register. The suspect stole $534 in cash, a cordless phone and a cell phone.

  • Brunswick County Sheriff's Office ACE roundup

    The Aggressive Criminal Enforcement (ACE) Team is a support unit, whose primary functions are traffic enforcement and assisting in the apprehension of drug traffickers in the county. The ACE team conducts driving while impaired and driver’s license checkpoints, as well as street-level investigations on controlled substances.
    The ACE team works with the sheriff’s office K-9 Enforcement Team and Drug Enforcement Unit to apprehend narcotics suspects as well as saturating hot spots where criminal activity is reported.

  • Holden Beach crime report

    Holden Beach police investigated the following incidents and charged the following suspects last week. All information is provided by the Holden Beach Police Department.

    •Kathy Yvonne Anderson, 56, of Supply, was arrested for outstanding warrants and was also charged with careless and reckless driving and driving while license revoked on Sept. 18.

    •Edward Christopher Stutey, 40, of Supply, was charged with displaying an expired registration plate on Sept. 16.

    •An attempted burglary was reported at 179 Ocean Blvd. W. on Sept. 18.

  • Brunswick County Sheriff's Office K-9 Enforcement Team roundup

    The K-9 enforcement team answers calls, conducts driver’s license checkpoints and assists with other agencies when K-9s are needed.

    From Sept. 13-19 K-9 deputies answered 16 calls, wrote 16 citations and made seven drug arrests. K-9 deputies set up checkpoints at Grey Bridge Road and Village Road.

    The following suspects were charged:

    •Richard Gerald House Jr., 38, of 203 Hepworth Way, Wilmington, was charged with possession of one-half ounce or less of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

  • Sheriff’s detectives search for mini mart robbery suspect

    LELAND—Detectives with the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office are searching for a woman they believe robbed a Leland mini mart last Friday morning.

    Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Sgt. April Stanley said around 1:46 a.m. Friday, Sept. 17, a female suspect forced her way into Tommy’s Mini Mart at 3280 Mount Misery Road in Leland.

  • Detectives arrest Ash man for larceny, fleeing from officers

    Deputies with the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office have arrested an Ash man for larceny and fleeing from officers.

    According to Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Sgt. April Stanley, sheriff’s deputies arrested Shannon Lee Fowler Thursday evening near his home on J.B. Lane in Ash.

    When a warrant officer first tried to contact Fowler in his home around 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 16, Fowler fled his home and ran into the wooded area at the intersection of Myrtle Head Road and Exum Road in Ash, Stanley said.
