  • Sheriff’s detectives search for mini mart robbery suspect

    LELAND—Detectives with the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office are searching for a woman they believe robbed a Leland mini mart last Friday morning.

    Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Sgt. April Stanley said around 1:46 a.m. Friday, Sept. 17, a female suspect forced her way into Tommy’s Mini Mart at 3280 Mount Misery Road in Leland.

  • Detectives arrest Ash man for larceny, fleeing from officers

    Deputies with the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office have arrested an Ash man for larceny and fleeing from officers.

    According to Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Sgt. April Stanley, sheriff’s deputies arrested Shannon Lee Fowler Thursday evening near his home on J.B. Lane in Ash.

    When a warrant officer first tried to contact Fowler in his home around 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 16, Fowler fled his home and ran into the wooded area at the intersection of Myrtle Head Road and Exum Road in Ash, Stanley said.

  • Arrests, theft in Sunset Beach

    SUNSET BEACH—Town police investigated a breaking and entering and larceny reported Sept. 13 at a residential unit at the Colony I complex in Oyster Bay.
    Someone kicked in a front door and stole two flat-screen televisions in the incident, Sunset Beach Deputy Chief Steve Smith said.

  • Shallotte Crime Report

    The Shallotte Police Department investigated the following incidents last week. All information is taken directly from police incident reports.

    •Christopher Eugene Norris, 40, of High Point; charged with shoplifting at Walmart.

    •Lavernal Tean Nicholson, 19, of Bolivia; charged with resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and failure to appear.

    •Tunaisha Lynn Tooley, 29, of Supply; charged with failure to yield, no insurance and displayed a revoked registration plate following a two-car wreck on Main Street.

  • Ocean Isle Beach Crime Report

    The Ocean Isle Beach Police Department investigated the following incidents last week. All information is taken directly from police incident reports.

    •Robert Thomas Libby, 20, of Little River, S.C.; charged with possession of less than one-half ounce of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia on East Second Street.

    •Jacob Allen Fordham, 23, of Selma; charged with possession of a schedule II controlled substance.

    •Ashley Grant Womack, 30, of Sanford; charged with resisting a public officer on Causeway Drive.

  • Brunswick County Sheriff's Office ACE roundup

    The Aggressive Criminal Enforcement (ACE) Team is a support unit, whose primary functions are traffic enforcement and assisting in the apprehension of drug traffickers in the county. The ACE team conducts driving while impaired and driver’s license checkpoints, as well as street-level investigations on controlled substances.
    The ACE team works with the sheriff’s office K-9 Enforcement Team and Drug Enforcement Unit to apprehend narcotics suspects as well as saturating hot spots where criminal activity is reported.

  • Brunswick County Sheriff's Office crime report

    Brunswick County Sheriff’s deputies investigated the following incidents last week, which are taken directly from sheriff’s office incident reports:

    •Assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury on A.I. Clemmons Road in Shallotte; suspect assaulted victim with a hammer.

    •Contributing to the delinquency of a minor on Little Shallotte River Drive in Shallotte; suspect gave a minor alcohol.

  • Holden Beach crime report

    Holden Beach Police investigated the following incidents and made the following arrests Aug. 31-Sept. 13. All information is provided by the Holden Beach Police Department.

    •Joseph Dean Goff, 52, of Hopkins, S.C., was arrested and charged with littering, driving while license revoked, and driving while impaired.

    •Lloyd Clyde Williams, 63, of Rex, was charged with violating a local ordinance.

    •John Scott Scafidi, 51, of North Myrtle Beach, S.C., was charged with operating a motorcycle with no helmet.

  • Brunswick County Sheriff's Office K-9 Enforcement Team roundup

    The K-9 enforcement team answers calls, conducts driver’s license checkpoints and assists with other agencies when K-9s are needed.

    From Sept. 6-12, K-9 deputies answered nine calls, wrote 12 citations and made nine drug arrests. K-9 deputies patrolled the following communities: Lakewood, Brunswick Plantation and Northwest.

    The following suspects were charged:

    •Stephen Tanner Holden, 27, of 5727 Wisteria Lane, Wilmington, was charged with possession of one-half ounce or less of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

  • Three dead, one injured in weekend wreck

    Three people died in an early-morning wreck Saturday, Sept. 11, in Leland.

    According to North Carolina State Highway Patrol Sgt. C.M. Hardee, three people died and one person was injured around 2:24 a.m. Saturday on Malmo Loop Road in Leland.

    Hardee said Michael Johnston, 28, of Leland, was driving a 2001 Chevrolet pickup truck east on Malmo Loop Road near the intersection of Colin Mintz Road in Leland.
