  • Leland crime report

    Leland police officers investigated the following incidents and made the following arrests last week. All information is taken directly from patrol activity reports.

    •Larceny of motor fuel at Murphy USA; suspect pumped $43.44 worth of gas and did not pay for it.

    •Pursuant to a traffic stop on U.S. 74-76, Krystal De Leon, 21, of 7014 Bronwyn St., Fayetteville, was cited and released for speeding, careless and reckless driving, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

  • OCEAN ISLE BEACH CRIME REPORT

    Ocean Isle Beach Police made the following arrest last week. All information is taken directly from OIB incident/investigation reports.

    •Sam Harrison Gaddy, 20, of Ocean Isle Beach, was arrested for possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia including a multicolor pipe with marijuana residue and an electronic scale, and failure to wear a seat belt.

  • Drug report

    Agents with the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office made the following arrests last week. The suspects and their charges, which are taken directly from arrest reports, are:

    •Gary Andre Wilson, 22, of 788 Fremont Road, Longs, S.C.; charged with felony possession of cocaine.

    •Frances Diane Vazant, 56, of 435 Orchard Lane, Bolivia; charged with felony possession of cocaine.

  • Crime report

    Brunswick County Sheriff’s deputies investigated the following incidents last week, which are taken directly from sheriff’s office incident reports:

    •Larceny and trespassing on Funston Road; suspect took tractor and several items from victim’s property.

    •Larceny on Whiteville Road in Ash; suspect stole items from victim’s yard.

    •Breaking and entering and property damage on Bird Drive in Shallotte; suspect broke victim’s bedroom window and entered residence, damaging several pieces of furniture.

  • Rose Hill man sentenced to life for murdering wife

    A Rose Hill man convicted of murder has been sentenced to life in prison.

    A Brunswick County jury found Gregory Scott Grosholz, 61, guilty of murdering his wife in December 2005.

    Sampson County Resident Superior Court Judge Thomas Lock sentenced Grosholz to life in prison for the murder his estranged wife Lenka Vaculikova Grosholz on Dec. 29, 2005.

  • Shallotte man pleads guilty to child sex charges

    A Shallotte man has pleaded guilty to several rape and sexual assault charges.

    Marvin Alfred Legg, 48, of Shallotte pleaded guilty to the following charges last Wednesday: one count of first-degree statutory rape; one count of first-degree statutory sex offense on a child younger than 13; three counts of statutory rape on a child who was 13, 14, or 15; three counts of statutory sex offense on a child who was 13, 14, or 15; and six counts of indecent liberties with a child.

  • Sheriff's office K-9 officer wins national award

    BOLIVIA—While chasing a slobbery, red Kong toy thrown by his handler, Hanno suddenly becomes distracted. The wind shifts, and as it does, it brings with it a familiar scent—drugs.

    Hanno is no longer concerned with playing with his favorite toy; the German shepherd has a job to do.

    The Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office K-9 doesn’t wait for his handler, Cpl. Rich Roman, to tell him what to do. The seasoned veteran immediately encircles an SUV, where Roman has hidden a bag or marijuana to show how Hanno trails a scent.

    Leland Police officers investigated the following incidents and made the following arrests last week. All information is taken directly from patrol activity reports:

    •False pretense on Village Road.

    •Larceny by an employee and forgery on New Pointe Boulevard.

    •Larceny on Lanvale Hills Circle; suspect removed registration plate from victim’s vehicle.

    •Missing/endangered person on Hickory Hill Drive. The subject returned home.

  • Habitual felon pleads guilty

    A habitual felon pleaded guilty last week to felony drug charges.

    Knovell Hankins, of Supply, pleaded guilty to two counts of possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine, on Feb. 20.

    Hankins was also charged with habitual felon.

    Assistant district attorney Chris Thomas said Hankins was sentenced to 70-93 months, or 5-7 years in prison.

  • Shallotte crime report

    Shallotte Police officers investigated the following incidents and made the following arrests last week.

    •Officers arrested Tambi Leigh Martin, 26, of Bay Village Street, on charges of driving while impaired, after stopping her on Whiteville Road.
