  • Two arrested for drugs, counterfeit currency

     Two suspects arrested for drugs were in possession of counterfeit currency.

    According to the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office the vehicle Eric James Faucette and Dawn Lea Brown were operating on Wednesday, Dec. 12 was involved in a vehicle stop. The Brunswick County Vice Narcotics Unit found controlled substances and a small amount of counterfeit money during the stop.

    Faucette, 31, of 218 Willard Street, Wilmington and Brown, 27, of 5420 Blue Clay Road, Castle Hayne were both arrested.

  • Leland Police report

    The Leland Police Department investigated the following incidents and made the following arrests last week. All information is taken directly from police incident and arrest reports.

     

    Dec. 4

    Larceny from a business on Village Road, Leland; an unknown suspect took three gold chains valued at $2,500.

    Forgery and counterfeiting, obtaining property by false pretenses at New Pointe Boulevard, Leland; a check was used to purchase items without the owner’s consent.

  • Suspect dials 911 and refuses to pull over for police; demanding $300,000

    A South Carolina woman who led Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office deputies on a high-speed pursuit Monday night called 911 and said she’d stop—for $300,000.

    According to the BCSO, deputy Joe Cherry attempted to conduct a traffic stop on Monday, Dec. 10, around 11:25 p.m. The driver failed to stop for blue lights and siren.

    Instead, Jeniffer Melisa Herring, 37, of 121 Misty Pine Drive, Surfside Beach, S.C., led police on a pursuit that began on Holden Beach Road and on Oxpen Road in Supply.

  • Operation Christmas Crackdown

    Last Wednesday, Dec. 5, multiple law enforcement agencies joined the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office for Operation Christmas Crackdown.

    Teams of officers gathered at 6 a.m. with a goal of apprehending 34 suspects wanted on drug charges from throughout the county.

    According to the BCSO, the operation targeted street-level drug dealers. The investigation began in September.

    “They can expect by now that we are coming for them,” Sheriff John Ingram said in a morning briefing.

  • Indoor grow operation busted

    CALABASH—Two Calabash residents have been arrested for an indoor marijuana growing operation.

    Lee David Foster, 40, and Melissa Marie Foster, 37, both of 1088 Clubview Lane, Calabash, were arrested after narcotics agents with the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office broke up their marijuana growing operation on Thursday, Dec. 6.

    The arrests were a result of an investigation by the BCSO Narcotics Enforcement Unit.

  • Thanksgiving Click It or Ticket yields 3,781 safety belt violations

     

    More than 3,700 drivers and passengers were cited for seat belt and child passenger safety violations during the Thanksgiving Click It or Ticket campaign.

    The statewide campaign was Nov. 19-25.

    “Multiple crashes have been reported in the news recently where motorists who were not wearing their seat belts have been killed. It is imperative that everyone in the car buckles up,” State Transportation Secretary Gene Conti said. “I thank all of the law enforcement agencies for their hard work reinforcing this message.”

    Brunswick County Sheriff’s deputies investigated the following incidents last week:

    Dec. 9

    Simple physical assault on London Street in Shallotte.

    Assault on a female on London Street in Shallotte.

    Larceny of jewelry on River Road in Winnabow.

    Death investigation on River Road in Winnabow.

    Assault on a female on Sand Hills Drive in Leland.

    Two incidents of simple physical assault on Black Chestnut Drive in Leland.

  • Booze It and Lose It

    State and local law enforcement officers will be out in force as part of the Holiday Booze It & Lose It campaign.

    Checkpoints and stepped-up patrols will be conducted beginning Friday, Dec. 7, through Wednesday, Jan. 2, across North Carolina in an effort to remove impaired drivers from the roads.

    “Make the responsible decision to designate a driver if you plan to drink this holiday season,” State Transportation Secretary Gene Conti said. “The choice you make could save a life.”

  • Sheriff’s Corner: Internet and Facebook scams

    We would like to let you know about an Internet scam making its rounds.

    Thieves are hacking into email and/or Facebook accounts and sending out messages or initiating chats to your friends and family asking for help. The messages appear as some variation of this:

  • Stabbing at Shallotte residence

    On Sunday, Dec. 9, at about 6:22 p.m., deputies responded to a reported stabbing at 1288 Partridge Place in Shallotte.

    Keith Wayne Futch, 26, of the same address, had been stabbed in the chest. He was airlifted to New Hanover Regional Medical Center, where he was treated.

    All people involved have been identified and are being interviewed.

    No one has been arrested at this time, and the investigation is still under way by detectives with the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office.
