    The Holden Beach Police Department investigated the following incidents and made the following arrests in the last two weeks. All information is taken directly from police incident and arrest reports.

  • Calabash Fire Department monthly report

    During the month of May, the Calabash Fire Department responded to 122 calls: five structure fires, one woods/brush fire, seven fire alarms, 11 motor vehicle accidents, six other, and 92 EMS first-response calls.

    Brunswick County Sheriff’s deputies investigated the following incidents last week.

    June 4

    Burglary and larceny of a generator on Quail Ridge Loop, Leland.

    Breaking and entering and larceny of a chop saw on Royster Road, Navassa.

    Lost or stolen cell phone on Old Fayetteville Road, Leland.

    Burglary with forced entry and larceny of two packs of cigarettes and cash from a residence on Holden Beach Road, Supply.

  • BCSO Vice-Narcotics Task Force makes arrests

    Staff Report

    The Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office Vice-Narcotics Task Force made the following arrests last week:

    •Steven Albert Babson, 50, of Project Road NW, Ash, was arrested May 31 for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Babson had three 12-gauge shotguns, a 410 shotgun and a 22-caliber long gun. He was released the same day.

  • Sunset Beach crime report

    The Sunset Beach Police Department is investigating larceny of money from a local business.

    On June 5, it was reported a woman came into Bill’s Seafood on Sunset Boulevard, hit the no-sale button and removed money from the cash register.

    The theft of golf clubs was reported June 7 at Sea Trail. Two men had gone inside Jones-Byrd Clubhouse when someone took off in their golf cart, which had two sets of golf clubs in the back. The golf cart was later recovered, but the golf clubs are still missing, Sunset Beach Police Chief Lisa Massey said.

    May 20

    Burlary, motor vehicle theft and larceny of jewelry, cash, credit cards and a Ford Fiesta on Mt. Misery Road, Leland.

    Vandalism on Jackey’s Creek Lane, Leland.

    Simple physical assault on North Howe Street, Southport.

    Fraud on Dale Avenue, Ocean Isle Beach.

    Assault on a female on Sandpiper Drive, Ocean Isle Beach.

    Assault and assault by pointing a gun on Easterly Drive, Supply.

  • Sunset Beach crime report

    The Sunset Beach Police Department investigated the following reports.

    Obtaining property by false pretense, reported May 29 on Magnolia Drive. A man was paid for yard work he didn’t do.

    A license tag was reported stolen or lost off a vehicle May 30 on Sandpiper Bay Drive.

    Breaking-and-entering and larceny of a motor vehicle, larceny of a firearm and property damage to vehicle, reported June 1 at Royal Post Road. The console of a topless Jeep was damaged and opened for removal and theft of a firearm.

    The Leland Police Department investigated the following incidents two weeks ago.

    May 14

    Obtaining property by false pretense on Village Road, Leland.

    Found property on Village Road, Leland.

    May 15

    Larceny of a vehicle registration plate on Village Road, Leland.

    Larceny of a cooling compressor on Village Road, Leland.

    May 16

    Larceny of a bicycle on Parsley Lane, Leland.

  • BCSO detectives search for missing trailers

    Detectives with the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office are seeking assistance from the public in locating a tractor trailer and lowboy trailer. Sometime during the month of April, a Kenworth tractor trailer along with a lowboy trailer were stolen from Wayne’s Backhoe Service at the intersection of Thomasboro Road and U.S. 17, Calabash. Wayne’s Backhoe is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the location of these trailers.

  • Sunset Beach crime report

    The Sunset Beach Police Department investigated two car break-ins reported in the past week.

    On May 26, larceny of a backpack, laptop, camera, passport, cards, prescription medicine, glasses and other miscellaneous personal items was reported to a motor vehicle on Kings Trail.

    On May 20, a pocketbook was reported stolen from an unlocked vehicle at Food Lion.
