    Sheriff’s Corner: Heating up with winter suggestions

     

    We are now starting to see some of that winter season upon us. Even though our winters are not as severe as those in other places, they can at times be just as bad.

    Inspecting and checking heaters and chimneys prior to starting out another winter is a good idea. We will offer some suggestions that may be useful for gearing up for winter.

  • Special Operations Report

    The special operations team at the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office includes the K-9 enforcement team and Aggressive Criminal Enforcement (ACE) Team.

    The ACE Team is a support unit whose primary functions are traffic enforcement and assisting in the apprehension of drug traffickers in the county.

  • Sheriff's Office Volunteer Report

     

     

    During October, the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office V.O.I.C.E Citizens Patrol contributed 1,213 hours of service at a value to the Brunswick County taxpayers of $18,527.64. 

    Volunteers served in administrative services, detention center and courthouse visitor screening, animal-protective services, community events and reviewing unsolved cases for the detective division. 

    Using the service of 37 volunteers, they conducted 36 community patrols logging 3,295 miles in two Citizens Patrol cars.

    Brunswick County Sheriff’s deputies investigated the following incidents:

     

    Nov. 9

    Fire investigation on Taft Road in Supply.

    Death investigation on Arbor Branch Road.

    Lost pocketbook on Old Shallotte Road in Ocean Isle Beach.

    Vandalism by stabbing tires on Palmers Branch Drive in Leland.

    Breaking and entering and vandalism on Eastbrook Avenue in Ocean Isle Beach.

    Burglary with forcible entry and vandalism on Jolly Roger Drive in Supply.

  • Shallotte Crime Report

    The Shallotte Police Department investigated the following incidents and made the following arrests last two weeks. All information is taken directly from police incident and arrest reports.

    Identity theft on Main Street; someone used victim’s information to obtain a credit card.

    •Burglary on Northside Drive; suspect entered residence and harassed victims.

    •Joann Michelle Hardy, 24, of 3999 Big Neck Road, Ash was charged with possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of cocaine.

  • Brunswick County ranks third for DWI arrests statewide during campaign

    State and local law enforcement officers cited 729 motorists for driving while impaired during the Booze It & Lose It Halloween campaign, which ran Oct. 26-31. A total of 24,363 traffic and criminal citations were issued statewide.

    In Brunswick County, 364 traffic and criminal violations and 35 DWI charges were issued during the six-day campaign including two younger than 21 DWI charges. Brunswick County issued the third highest number of DWIs in the state.

  • Missing person last seen at BB&T in Bolivia

    The Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office needs your help in finding a missing person.

    Jonathan Barry Peeler, 40, of Supply, was last seen at the BB&T on Old Ocean Highway in Bolivia on Nov. 2.

    According to the BCSO, Peeler was dropped off at the ATM to withdraw cash. This is the last place he was spoken to. He is believed to be operating a black 2001 Chevrolet Blazer with a possible registration plate of ALC 9356 or KPN 6578. It is unknown what Peeler was wearing at the time he disappeared.

  • Calabash Fire Department report

     During the month of October, Calabash Fire Department responded to 113 calls: eight structure fires, four fire alarms, seven motor vehicle accidents, eight other incidents; and 86 EMS first-response calls.    

  • Woman charged with assault in Sunset Beach

    The Sunset Beach Police Department has charged a woman with simple assault.

    Robin Renee Wishon, 50, of 131 Forest Walk in Sunset Beach was charged on Nov. 9.

  • Man pleads guilty to sexual assault on two juveniles

    Jason Boyd Frick, a 31-year-old Wilmington resident, pled guilty recently in Brunswick County Superior Court to one count of attempted first-degree sex offense with a child and one count of indecent liberties with a child, for incidents that occurred with a 6-year-old girl and 4-year-old-girl in August 2011.
