  • Sunset Beach Police Department Jan. 8-21 2018

    Sunset Beach police investigated the following incidents and made these arrests. All information is taken directly from department reports.

    Jan. 8

    Breaking and entering on Beach Drive, where several TVs and a laptop were stolen from an office area.

    Mailbox damaged on Sandpiper Bay Drive.

    Communicating threats at Seaside Cleaners off Beach Drive.

    Jan. 9

    Harassing phone calls reported on Dogwood Drive.

    Charles Maree, 61, of Marsh Drive, arrested on second-degree kidnapping and assault by strangulation charges.

  • Calabash Fire Department sets record calls for 2017

    The Calabash Fire Department had another busy month, setting a yearly record for calls during 2017 with 2,125 responses for the year, spokeswoman Honey Chiocco said.

    Chiocco said it was the second highest number of calls for a fire department in Brunswick County, second only to Leland, which had 2,188 calls.

    Dec. 21

    Hit-and-run of a truck by another vehicle on Magnolia Drive.

    Dec. 23

    Laurie Eubanks, 41, of Shady Rest Place in Shallotte was arrested on outstanding warrants.

    Dec. 26

    William Michael Ramsey, 22, of Gray Road in Lexington was stopped for speeding and cited on simple possession of less than one-half ounce and possession of drug paraphernalia charges.

  • Women accused of taking more than $27K in items from store

    Four women are accused of stealing more than $27,000 in merchandise from the Dollar General in Supply where they worked.

    Brunswick County sheriff’s deputies arrested Denise Marie Davis, 34, of Supply; Cheryl Brown Hickman, 44, of Shallotte; Donna Gail Norton-Espinoza, 37, of Supply; and Kimberly Danielle Rhodes, 25, of Shallotte, each on a larceny by employee charge.

  • Man faces first-degree burglary charge in Supply break-in

    A Sunset Beach man is accused of breaking into an apartment in Supply while five people, including two children, were there.

    Brunswick County sheriff’s deputies arrested 24-year-old Coty Allen Gales, of Lula Street, on a first-degree burglary charge, two felony probation violations and a parole violation Dec. 18.

    A warrant shows Gales broke into the apartment on Holden Beach Road between 2 and 2:30 a.m. Dec. 14 with the intent to commit felony assault and larceny after breaking and entering.

  • Man accused of calling 911, threatening to shoot public safety officers

    A Shallotte man is accused of calling 911 to threaten to shoot firefighters and a police officer.

    Brunswick County sheriff’s deputies arrested 57-year-old Joseph Franklin Cartrette, of Pigott Road, on two counts of communicating threats and a charge of 911 system misuse.

    Cartrette called 911 just before 3 p.m. Dec. 18, according to a sheriff’s office incident report.

  • Southport man facing drug charges held on $4.5M bail

    A Southport man facing cocaine and marijuana charges is being held at the Brunswick County Detention Facility on $4.5 million bail.

    Terrance Leon Washington, 34, was arrested Dec. 15 and charged with maintaining a vehicle, dwelling or place for a controlled substance, conspiring to sell or deliver cocaine, possession with intent to manufacture, sell or deliver marijuana, conspiring to traffic in cocaine, seven counts of possession with intent to manufacture, sell or deliver cocaine and five misdemeanor counts of possession of drug paraphernalia.

  • Police seek man in Shallotte Wal-Mart theft

    Detectives are looking for a man who stole money from Shallotte’s Wal-Mart at 1:18 p.m. Dec. 19.

    They did not say how much was taken or provide a detailed description of the man with photos included in a Shallotte Police Department Facebook post about the crime Dec. 20.

  • Sunset Beach Police Department, Dec. 14-16 2017

    Sunset Beach police investigated the following incidents and made these arrests. All information is taken directly from department reports.

    Dec. 14

    A report was taken about a stolen firearm. The victim said he misplaced his firearm but was unable to determine whether it happened locally or somewhere up north. The incident is under investigation.

    Dec. 15

    Brett M. Herndon, 30, of Dolphin Street, was cited on possession of less than one-half ounce of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia charges.

  • Calabash Fire Department

    During the month of November 2017, the Calabash Fire Department responded to 203 calls: six structure fires, a woods/brush fire, a vehicle fire, five fire alarms, nine motor vehicle accidents, 29 public assistance, two other and 150 EMS first-response calls.
