    May 8

    Bradley David Lea, 26, was arrested on a charge of simple assault on a female.

    Lost ring possibly misplaced by the victim.

    Suspicious person making unusual statements and raising concerns of employees at the North Carolina Division of Employment Security office on Main Street.

    May 6

    Unknown subject(s) took several golf cart batteries from 30th Street.

    May 10

    Christopher Brittin, 61 of 10109 Gordon Road, Gordonsville, Va., was arrested on charges of DWI and driving left of center.

    May 11

    Motor vehicle breaking and entering in the 500 block of Medcalf Drive SW where an iPhone was stolen.

    Donald Wright, 26, was arrested on charges of felony drug trafficking, opium, and misdemeanor shoplifting, possessing/concealing of paraphernalia, simple possession of a schedule II controlled substance and simple possession of a schedule IV controlled substance.

  • Calabash Fire Department April 2017

    During the month of April 2017, the Calabash Fire Department responded to 145 calls: seven structure fires, two woods/brush fires, a vehicle fire, nine fire alarms, eight motor vehicle accidents, an investigation, 22 public assistance, two mutual aid, five other and 88 EMS first response calls.

    Donald Wright, 26, of Tanner Drive SW, Shallotte, was arrested on a charge of shoplifting at the Minuteman 14 in Sunset Beach. Shallotte police arrested him on unrelated charges.

    Larceny by taking $900 worth of household items from a Lincoln Place Circle residence.

    April 26

    Alexa Drew Causey, 26, 9218 Cypress Court, arrested on charges of felony possession of cocaine, misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia, driving while impaired and failing to heed lights and siren.

    Richard Ernest Griffis, 27, of Waterloo Drive, Ocean Isle Beach, was charged with no tag light, concealing a weapon, no operator’s license and possession of drug paraphernalia.

  • Brother-in-law accused of assaulting Calabash commissioner

    The brother-in-law of Calabash Mayor Pro Tem Jody Nance is accused of assaulting Nance on Monday, May 1.

    John Richard Climer, 60, of River Road in Calabash was released on a $500 bond following his arrest by the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office at 6:05 p.m. Monday.

    Climer was charged with simple assault following an incident reported at Nance’s business, Calabash Small Engines at 1083 River Road in Calabash.

    A warrant shows Climer was charged after Nance, 62, was assaulted and struck on his face and chest.
