    The Leland Police Department investigated the following incidents and made the following arrests in the last week. All information is taken directly from police incident and arrest reports.

     

    March 15

    Forgery of notes, checks and other securities at the BB&T on Village Road in the amount of $2,480.

    Larceny of a 10-speed bicycle, valued at $350, on Veranda Court.

    Financial card forgery; a suspect used a stolen ATM card to withdraw $366 from the victim’s bank account.

  • Female officer makes detention center history

    BOLIVIA—She is the keeper of the keys.

    She’s seen it all. She’s heard it all. She’s done it all—except be a prisoner herself.

    Capt. Jane Evans has been employed by the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office as a detention center officer for the past 18 years.

    Fire investigation on Carter Drive, Calabash.

    Larceny of tires from a motor vehicle and vandalism on Old Georgetown Road, Ocean Isle Beach.

    Death investigation on Easy Street, Bolivia.

    Credit card fraud on Cedar Crest Drive, St. James Plantation.

    Larceny of a plastic dump cart on Roberta Road, Ocean Isle Beach.

    Death investigation on Pine Glen, Southport.

  • Man arrested for trafficking Ecstasy

    The Brunswick County Sheriff's Office Vice Narcotics Task Force along with the Special Operations Unit arrested Thomas Michael Price, 20, of 520 East Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Charlotte, during a vehicle stop on March 21.

    Price has been charged with possession with the intent to manufacture, sell or deliver methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDA/MDMA also known as Ecstasy), possession of drug paraphernalia and two counts of trafficking in MDA/MDMA. Price was in possession of 3.2 ounces of MDMA.

  • Statewide, 690 DWI arrests made during three-day campaign

    Six hundred and ninety impaired drivers were arrested during a statewide campaign against driving while impaired.

    Statewide, 409 law enforcement agencies participated in the Governor’s Highway Safety Program’s St. Patrick’s Day “Booze It & Lose It” campaign. The campaign began March 16 and ended March 18.

    Wake (54 arrests), Forsyth (31), Guilford (33), New Hanover (28) and Robeson (27) counties had the most DWI arrests.

  • Shallotte man dies in single-vehicle wreck

    A Shallotte man died early Saturday morning after losing control of his vehicle. He had just celebrated his 50th birthday six days before on St. Patrick’s Day, March 17.

    Teddy Dwayne Long, 50, of Shallotte, died after a vehicle car crash on Persimmon Road in the Calabash area.

    The North Carolina Highway Patrol responded to the wreck at 6:07 a.m. March 23. According to 1st Sgt. Troy Pope, it was a one-car crash on Persimmon Road about two miles north of Calabash.

    Suspicious activity at Coastal Cinemas on Bridger Road; suspect photographed the safe.

    March 9

    Larceny of jewelry on Main Street; suspect took two gold chains with three diamonds.

  • Special Operations Report

    The special operations team at the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office includes the K-9 enforcement team and Aggressive Criminal Enforcement (ACE) Team. The ACE Team is a support unit whose primary functions are traffic enforcement and assisting in the apprehension of drug traffickers in the county.

    From March 18 through March 24, special operations deputies arrested and charged the following suspects:

    Zachary Conrow Blosser, 26, 233 Weeping Cherry Lane, Columbia, S.C., possession of drug paraphernalia.

    March 7

    Breaking and entering, property damage and larceny of a television on Duneside Street.

    March 16

    Property damage to a vehicle and a light fixture at Islander Inn on West First Street; damage was caused during a fight.

    Larceny; a suspect took a cell phone from a residence on Blake Circle.

    March 6

    Tampering with town property; suspects tampered with a town-owned dog trap on Ricefield Branch Street.

    Larceny; a suspect took medications valued at $60 from a home on Basin Street without permission.
