  • Bolivia man accused of child sex crime held on more than $1M bail

    A Bolivia man accused of committing sex crimes against a child is in the Brunswick County Detention Facility on $1,100,500 bail.

    James Russell Milliken, 64, of Neck Road was arrested March 21 and charged with felony indecent liberties with a child.

    A warrant shows the crime involving a child younger than 16 happened between July 14, 2017, and Feb. 28.

    Milliken is also charged with failure to appear on a misdemeanor and has been served a warrant out of Louisiana for probation violation in relation to a juvenile pornography charge.

    Obtaining property by false pretense by pawning a $75 Xbox ONE belonging to Aaron’s at Pawn USA on Main Street.

    March 15

    Willie James McCray, 66, of Williams Circle, Chapel Hill, was charged on outstanding warrant for a probation violation after turning himself in at the police department.

    March 18

    Stolen scooter reported on Clubhouse Drive.

  • Pedestrian struck, killed by SUV in Shallotte

    An SUV struck and killed a Shallotte woman while she was walking in the direction of traffic on Copas Road in Shallotte on March 1.

    Danielle Marie Toland, 35, of River Bluff Drive was pronounced dead at the scene, North Carolina State Highway Patrol Trooper D. Inman said.

    No one else was injured.

    Jan Keith Dale, 78, of Copas Road, was driving a 2013 Lexus east on Copas Road when it struck and killed Toland at 6:45 p.m., Inman said. Dale was driving the 35 mph speed limit and had been wearing a seat belt.

    Someone tried to pass counterfeit money at the Minuteman 14. The store clerk noticed money was fake and advised the person to leave store.

    Feb. 13

    Communicating threats at a Heartwood Drive residence.

    Simple worthless check by writing a check then closing the bank account.

    Breaking and entering a Bay Village Street residence, injury to personal property, safe cracking and larceny of three handguns, three rifles, a shotgun and other items worth $5,000.

  • Police: Leland man used knife to rob shoe store Tuesday

    A Leland man is accused of using a knife to rob a shoe store Tuesday.

    Jared Lamar Galloway, 31, of Ploof Road is charged with armed robbery and second-degree kidnapping, Leland police Lt. Jeremy Humphries said in a news release.

    Police responded to the robbery at 12:28 p.m. to Shoe Department at 1114 New Pointe Blvd, Suite 70, where they were told the robber was last seen going into Wal-Mart, Humphries said.
